On my 56 Meteor 272 I changed the intake to a 57 t bird (larger runners) and a 400 Holley (manual choke) with a 1 " spacer ( from Summitt Racing) I also used the dual exhaust manifolds from the 57 T bird 312 as they are a bit larger for better breathing. They are a tight fit if its a 3 on the tree. The old Carter 4 bbl is a lot of trouble to keep in tune. That's what works for my ol girl.
With a 55/56 Y block, the dist. will be a load-matic with no mechanical advance. These engines used the tea pot/burning inferno carb. In 57 the intake was changed, as was the carb and dist. This intake has a suffix "B" at the end instead of the earlier "A". The newer dist. was also a mech./vac. advance unit Seems to me that a small Edelbrock will bolt on to the "B" intake.
