I am looking at a short box 99 pickup that was painted in 2005... and never sold or put into service....(true)    

The clear coat is peeling in some/lots of spots    Obviously the truck needs paint....   

1. I was wondering, if would do any further harm by taping off the base color areas and spraying with clear?  

    Just to last, until I get a place this fall that will paint it....  

     I will drive it as is, but wondered about the base coat exposed....

 

2. I know several folks will tell me to get it painted asap   bla bla bla    

     but I don't have the money, and if I did,   theres "no place around here" that will do it before Fall or winter      

 

 

 

My grandsons  03 stepside needs rocker and cab corners   have been waiting for 1.5 years for a shop to do it

On my 97, the clear is peeling on the hood and roof, the sides seem fine. Where it is peeling seems to have no effect on the base coat. I would just wax it until you can get it painted.

the answer is no..It will not harm anything to do that..just give it a light scuff with 320 or 400 and fog it into the good clear .you can buy a blender solvent to give it a little fogging where you will be blending to give it a some mechanical adhesion You will need to scuff it or there will be a poor adhesion..
