Emission parts needed for swap

Hey all! Been getting things done on my 52 Chev pickup. My C4 Corvette suspension is in and am placing my new engine and tranny. I have a 2006 Chev L33 5.3L sitting between the rails. What I would like to know is what emission equipment came on this engine and or donor vehicle that I need to transfer over to the 52. I found a guy parting out a 2004 GMC with a 5.3 in it and can get parts from it. I want to try and make this swap emission legal.

EGR, but that engine may not have had one. Make sure you have two catalytic converters if you have dual exhaust, and have the evap charcoal canister. If you actually want this stuff to work, you will need a sealed fuel tank.

Not too hard to do.  I kept my original tank and just changed the filler neck to one from a later model car that uses a sealed cap, then added a second hard line from the gas tank to the engine compartment (this is the vent line that goes to the charcoal canister).  

 

 

I think there should be a sticker under the hood of the truck buddy is parting out, either take that sticker (or the info off it) and that should tell you everything you need to know regarding what emissions stuff those things came with.  If the sticker has fallen off, you might be able to get a replacement directly from a dealer as the donor your are using isn't too old.

I believe if your going to use the 06 engine/trans and electronics you will need the DLC and harness as well. They will test your emissions based on the 06.. you will also need the charcoal canister,  purge valve, front and rear vent valves and a tank with a pressure sensor on the tank.If the evap monitors will not run or you have any MIL light on you will not pass..I would recommend you read the information posted on the MTO web site regarding hot-rods after the year 2000 and E testing ..Do your home work and don't trust what anybody tells you..you might just for heck of it go visit an E-test station and have a wee chat with the guy doing the test, Get a book and make a list of all your questions and make a plan..It sucks to spend time and money and then have months of hassles to correct what you may have missed ..It's not really all that complicated ..But It does have to have ALL the emissions equipment that supported that year and model..so spend some time reading take everything everybody says and then make sure you got your butt covered..Good luck..sounds like a great build..and you will be happy when it's done..04 may not be the same as 06.. I don't know that for a fact but again do your home work..and build it on paper first..just sayin..

Thanks guy's. I appreciate it. fatchuk, I've been to an emission testing centre and all they know is how to run the machine. They tell me to go to a dealer. I've been doing tons of reading and understand that I have to have all the emission equipment. That's why I asked here on a local forum what equipment I need to salvage to put on my truck. I guess I need to do my homework elsewhere.

Hi farmer.. I was just meaning that this this subject has been  kicked around so much with everybody having such different answers.. I believe the ministry has about all the correct info posted on their site there was a link on here not long ago with all that information posted.. It is just a lot easier to get it right at the beginning rather than have to make some modifications after.. The MTO is pretty rigid  about that now-a-days with the environmental laws they can be a real dick to deal with so I was just try to give a heads up to do your home work ..you might even be able to do a search on here, there has been several I think discussions on this subject and some have some depressing results..I am just saying if your going to be tested as an 06 you need to pass the 06 e-test just did not want to see waste your money on the wrong stuff trying to get the stuff from an 04 may or may not work as each and every ECM is programed different for the emissions and options for that year.. so what you take from an 04 may not function on an 06 ECM..I don't that for a fact but you should know if it will work or not..lots of money and time goes into the build worth a little time to do some studying..I don't know that anybody has a correct answer for this conversion but I would probably start with what the ministry is saying on their site..maybe somebody can find and post the link to the previous discussions on this for you..I thought it was a pretty good document that laid out the requirement's pretty clearly..Most of are unsure as anything to do government regulations can be very complicated even in print they make pretty hard to figger what the hell are they saying...

 Drive Clean test centers are NOT where you will (typically) find the information you seek.

I suggest you contact the MOE directly.

Don't bother wasting your time trying guess what the MOE requires of you, go to the source and ask them, making sure you give them the specifics of your particular swap.

 

The MOE will be able to tell you what you are required to have in place (as in their answer being something along the lines of "everything the 2004 or whatever donor vehicle came with" if that is what is required in your particular case).  I do not believe they will walk you through everything little component, piece by piece though.  You need to determine that on your own, either through an under hood sticker or through a friendly parts guy at the dealer.

Thanks fatchuk and Barchetta......... I hear ya both. That's exactly what the drive clean and MOE have said "everything the 2006 or whatever donor vehicle came with". I understand that and have no problem installing what came on the 2006 truck. I'm just having a hard time figuring out what came on the truck from the factory so I can go out and get the parts. That was my original question. What came on the 2006 and did 2004 trucks have the same parts? Thanks again guy's.

Well what I have so far is..it was a 06 Silverado, 1500 4WD, 325 CI..HO 5.3.  L33 Aluminum block 310 hp used 05 to 07 ..but I think it may be the same as the LS1.. So now that I know exactly what it came from I can give you all the emission equipment that was on that engine..but way to much to post here..So you will need to PM me your snail mail addy and I will print it all including service and test procedures...and mail it to you....

Go and buy a crate engine,keep the bill in the glove box,save yourself a massive headache.By the time you collect and get everything working propeerly the crate engine will be the cheaper way to go.Crate engines are immune from this crazy emissions B.S.
