I had to join the forum just so I could chime in here and let you all know how much we enjoyed the road trip, and the Jalopy Jam Up weekend.
I decided to do the trip on a whim and am I ever glad I did.
Thanks to Jay, Brandon and Jeff and everyone else involved for creating an event that caught my attention it first year an followed up with a great experience in its second. I'll drive to it again, although I might choose different tires.
If you're ever travelling through North Dakota, Manfred is worth a photo stop, for the gas station and several century old buildings.
It was a pleasure to deliver all those Saskatchewan butterflies to Ontario.
Thanks for joining Mike. Hope you enjoy it here.
I enjoyed meeting you and chatting about your car and your trip. Both are awesome and thanks for the butterflies.
HI MIKE : Although I was there , we weren't introduced , but we all loved the fact that you made the run , and the car and it's history were " the topic of the day ". It's guys like you that make events like this one , so VERY special -- I thank you for being there and helping the rest of us to experience a fantastic , unique event -- LATER -- DON / Fleet 51
That' helps define a perspective that I hadn't wholly considered. The Jam Up presented an opportunity to me to remember my dad, "hearing his voice in my ear" as we made the trip, stopped at various sites, or even just looking after the car was we went just added to the enjoyment for me. I hadn't considered how well that would rub off, I'm sure glad it did!
Any other rod run I'm sure I would have chosen my '28 for the trip, given that it's more comfortable to drive. This car though was built to respect the earlier builds and look while trying to incorporate some modern aspects that would help it be more suitable to long trips. It's been to Bonneville and back a number of times, but that's only 2 days from here, this trip was it's longest. I think it performed right up to our (me and dad) expectations, and he would be just as happy as I am.
And Thank-You too John, it was great meeting you and putting a face to that roadster I've read so much about this past couple years.

Mike If you and your Dad had this car at Bonneville in 2002 [ I was with Gary Weldon] your Dad insisted I take it for a spin which I did. For whatever reason I missed you at the Jam Up [ I saw the car]. Sorry but glad you had a great time.

Yes, same car, fresher engine. Smaller steering wheel. Remember trying to squeeze in past that '40 wheel?
Rochie, Homer I'll keep making random trips east. I had been planning on coming down in late October for the Hall of Fame dinner, but I'm pretty sure I blew that travel budget on this trip. I'm still calculating though.
HI MIKE : Once again , CONGRATULATIONS !! to you and your wife . Your story just keeps living on -- and we fellow car enthusiasts are thrilled !! Your trip ,your story and the way you have honoured your DAD just exemplify how good the car - culture still is ( I believe I speak for the other Ontario Rodders ) Thank you , Thank you !! -- LATER -- DON / Fleet 51

My neighbour was telling me about that MSN link yesterday. He had seen it in the morning and was surprised to see a car identical to mine in Ontario! I had to break the news to him that he was mistaken, that the car wasn't identical but in fact the same car he was used to seeing and I'd driven it to Ontario.
Greg Williams contacted me via email while we were at the Jam Up, then I visited him for an interview in early September.
Yesterday the article ran in the Calgary Herald and today it's up on driving.ca
HI MIKE : Well , here we go again !! -- As I previously mentioned , your story just keeps living on -- and I for one , am glad it is !! It's a wonderful story and one that you and your wife can be rightly proud of -- I love how you honoured your DAD . DO IT AGAIN !!! ---- LATER -- DON / Fleet 51
