I don't know the details surrounding this theft, but it might be as good a time as any to mention to O-R members, that a cheap, motion activated camera system outside AND inside your garage and house might be a very good idea. So many thefts could have been solved had there been clear video of the incident. Thefts that are solved quickly have a much better chance of the stolen stuff being returned before the item or items are pawned, scrapped, parted out etc.
