Windsor weekend Grand Bend Dragway good racing

small rant about the track   (just my opinion)

Went to Grand Bend Dragway today for a afternoon of drag racing..  I have stayed away for 7 years  :(

This weekend was  Windsor (area) Weekend    It was sunny and Hot :)   Track was hooking well   Saw some awesome cars… :)

From a 7:75 pro Mod glass Willys to some fairly fast Diesel trucks  lol

I always loved the facility    From its closeness to me (30-40 min away)  to its great track,  stands for "thousands" to sit,    Clean washrooms!  great food !

but as usual the track "does not appeal" or seem to try to attract spectators..:(

With thousands of people in the Bend this weekend  there were 112 people in the stands  ....Yes I counted them....

50 people standing in the beer tent....... to get out of  heat

The event... was the same old, same old, as all events were  7 years ago    "Hurry up and wait"   burn your ass waiting...

The announcer sitting in A/C room announcing the classes...  and then telling us.... we were waiting for  "Jonny racer" to come to the lines

over and over   "would "Jack Ass" come to the lines"   BS

what bull ****   "Call the class" and race those who are punctual!!!

don’t make us sit in the heat while your lazy ass friend screws around in the pits

The speakers on the posts block the light reader boards at the end of the track (sitting in the bleachers)

and there are no speakers pointing at the seating

Racing stops and spectators wait and wait in total silence !!!

The track has so much potential

Did you know you have to run a generator to power your RV, in your pit stall?

Did you imagine what they could bring in for dollars with a hydro line for spectators to bring in their RVs   ‘

I’m going to go back..... but only for a few hours per event     I can’t at my age sit for 6-10 hours waiting for bozos to run a program....

I want to go to St Thomas and see if they want spectators

Imagine 1000 spectators at Grand Bend x 10-20 every weekend   imagine how they could enhance the “payouts with 10-20,000.00 per event extra ?

Imagine 100 RV’s per weekend paying 25-50 for hydro

'so much potential     I wish some Americans would buy it

No question you will be welcomed at St Thomas Carl! They run a good track and program, I especially enjoy the Turkey Nationals!IMG_6672.JPGIMG_6677.JPGIMG_6857.JPGIMG_6916 LS (1 of 1).jpg

Carl,
obviously you don't low that Grand Bend has been sold to make way for condos. At least that's the last I heard. SO I guess you'll have to come to Sparta for some racing.

Didn't hear that   but I will be coming for sure..

I used to race there... and it was the best...

        Now I enjoy watching.....

I guess as a spectator, I should suck it up, and take a umbrella (for sun) and sunscreen and leave when I'm tired....

As a retired tire shop manager, it frustrates me to see the potential of spectator revenue get lost.....

I have a couple of thoughts on this.

I have never been to the track at Grand Bend. I have been to Cayuga, Sparta, Mosport and Shannonville ..... I do not remember seeing electrical hookups at any of the tracks I just mentioned. Everyone (who came equipped) ran their own generators for power. As for why the Bend doesn't offer hookups .... maybe the cost to install such a system is HUGELY cost prohibitive. It simply wouldn't be worth it to incur a $300,000 (or whatever) initial outlay (if they can even afford that), just to "rake in" $1000 (hopefully) a weekend (and obviously not every weekend of the year too) and that's only IF the racers pay for it. Anyone who already has a generator is probably not going to be interested in paying for a hookup.

As for the speakers not facing the crowd, blocking spectators view of stuff, I'd suggest bringing this to the attention of whomever runs this venue ..... they might really appreciate the feedback.

I can understand waiting for the "show cars" that were paid to make an appearance (wheelstanders, John Force for eg) but they shouldn't be waiting for cars that aren't in the lanes when the class is called. Either you're ready or you're not. Again though, never having been to the Bend, maybe this "Windsor Weekend" is more of a friendly event, where "we're all neighbours" and the racing is more for fun, so they don't mind giving another racer some extra time.

As for the 7.75 ProMod ...... those guys have some work ahead of them as a competitive ProMod should be running in the hi five second range.

In Grand Bend   there no place to get out of the sun (again for spectators) and no place out of the rain

Wonder if this is legit.  I just did a quick Google search and can't find any mention of the track being sold.  I'd figure there'd be at least some mention of it somewhere if it was true, either that or they're really good at keeping it quiet.
