Well time to learn some more stuff I should already know how to do...
I changed plugs/wires/cap/rotor on the weekend and the plugs look way to lean.
(Bought wires from summit. $39US, they look great! 90* boot is smaller than the taylors I had so a little more clearance from the headers and easier to get on.)
So gonna pickup the carb tuning kit for my carb (edelbrock 600). Doesn't look too bad to do??
Looks like I need to change two jets and two rods.
The original owner told me he didn't make adjustments to the carb. So I'm assuming it's stock jetting. I found the chart...
based on the pics of these plugs can anyone suggest if I should be doing two steps richer? (I have no idea how old these plugs are)
Should I be thinking about the configuration for (15) on the chart??
I also want to check the timing.
Not sure if I should pickup a timing light or ask around to borrow one.. If I pick one up any suggestions on what to get?
Those plugs are really lean I would start at two steps and read them again on the side of the road. Cruise down the road and shut it off (if there's no steering interlock) coast to the side, pull a plug and check it. You're looking for a nice light tan on the porcelain
That plug could be 20 years old for all you know. take a run at cursing speed for 5 or so miles pull over and then check the new plugs I don't think your that far off .
Thats the reason the highway is always backed up in the GTA . Guys checking there plugs!!!!. By the time you get there they are gone and no visible reason for the slow down.
