We read and see and hear car B.S. all the time , right , but here's a different spin .
My buddy buys and resells a couple of interesting older vehicles every year .....buys them , pays all the proper taxes , details them up , drives them to work for a while and then flips them .....makes a few bucks along the way and gets to enjoy an old vehicle for while .
He takes me along some times for " another pair of eyes " and I quietly give him my opinion . We go to see a " Mustang GT Convert , excellent condition , no rust , appraised at 27500 , for sale at 12000.
It takes me a nanosecond to realize it isn't a GT in spite of badges and emblems because the VIN # doesn't line up , wrong motor . .........guy says " I told them to put GT on the ownership at the licence bureau because it would be worth 5K more !!!??? WTF ? Soooooo I guess if you buy a 6 cyl Camaro and put IROC emblems on it , it becomes an IROC Camaro . There were the usual other exaggerations ..." no rust " = crispy metal everywhere , much bondo etc.
So , guys ,keep those bogus emblems handy if you want to make a big score !
The secondary "story" is that the guy doing the appraisals is known to us .......appraisal gets better if you pay him more money . Seriously ! If the prospective buyer is from another province and wants to secure this appraiser to eyeball the car and give a report , he works both ends of the deal for more money . The 27500 appraisal was a laugher , but it says Mustang GT on the appraisal ! In my mind the car might have been worth 5K .
Fortunately there is a legitimate guy around who does good appraisals .
