I bought a used part for my car from a guy in the U.S. I paid $100 U.S. plus shipping. When the guy filled out the customs paperwork-he wrote down $100 on the sub total but by mistake wrote $1,000 on the total value(added an extra 0).I got a slip to pick the part up at the local postal place.I had to pay $75 taxes and duties and etc to get the part. The lady at the postal outlet said they have nothing to do but collect the fees-I would have to contact customs to try to get a refund. Is it worth the hassle to get my $$ back? Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Keep on Cruising!!!

Dave

Depends on how much spare time you have. I'm a dutchman, so would do it for $25. LOL

I had something similar happen a couple of years back. Take a look at the back of the paperwork you got and it should tell you how to request a refund for an overpayment. I had two incidents and received an adjustment on both. I didn't have much hope going in, but had no trouble with it at all in the end.

write the guy you bought the parts from and tell him he owes you the $75 or you will complain to paypal(????) he may send you corrected paper work and a letter to send to RevCan/Customs

Thats a interesting story...    When I used to get things shipped U.S. Postal to Canada... I never paid a dime at the Post office.....

I always go to Port Huron Shipping Store now on Lapeer ....

wife drives 72 miles to shop for groceries and stuff  Picks up my packages

I always shop "free shipping" and pay no duty... or HST.....

I'd ask the seller, for some assistance, since it was his mistake,, but you probably just eat it as experience.....

Fill out the paper work on the back. I've done it and received money back.

apparently Canada Pest now charges $10 "broker fee" on mail and collects duty/tax where applicable. I am not sure what dollar value triggers the gang rape. Just like FedEx, Puro, UPS etc....
They are sinking and grasping at any straws to pay the billion dollar wages and bone-us

FOR $75 ??????? I would just take it as a good lesson.

Shouldn't it have been $1000 times (about) 30%(exchange) = $1300 times 13% (HST)= about $169

I would say live and learn

Just my opinion

PST is only 8%  GST 5%  so you pay 5% when you import,  8% is added if you buy it here. or if it is a car and you go to register it..............

Get my stuff shipped to a address in Michigan only pay the exchange rate on the dollar and go pick it up. on orders over 1000.00 it tends to pay off. Or get soaked by the dealers here in Canada. Some parts as much as 50% over list. And they wonder why we by in the States.no
