Insurance - limited use coverage
Permalink

I have a friend who has his 1965 Buick convertible for sale.  Part of the reason he is considering selling it is insurance.  I asked him if he had ever looked at the speciality car insurance market.  He had not and a regular policy was out of reach for his finances based on how little he drove it.  So I know insurance changes all the time and what was good a year ago may not be so good now.

His car appears to be stock so anyone have any suggestions I could pass along to him?  It would be appreciated.

I just went with Vintage car Ins. co. in Lindsay, depends on value of car bit should be able to insure it for close to $200/yr. has some limitations but nothing out of line, can still go for a 'drive
" without having to be going to car related event" just no work or holiday drive unless it's for a show!!! & there's always a show "somewhere"

Hagerty is not a bad option either. I have had no trouble the last 5 years. I wrecked the one classic and they paid me off in less than 28 days.

I was hit from behind by a lady driving a Suburban and Hagerty came through with flying colours for me.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the information. Pete since we live in Haliburton I think I will pass along the company in Lindsay. Not to far down the road, I don't think this guy has a computer so it might work for him to call and then drop in.

Again, thanks for the tips and advice.

glad it

worked for you Joe, but as you know I had "PROBLEMS"  BIG TIME with Hagerty jerked me & the shop around for months!!!  Maybe on a collision it's different but an electrical fire was a "NIGHTMARE"

I went with vintage insurance out of Lindsay. I was with hagerty, but vintage came in at half the price for the same coverage. They also included first right to salvage so if the car was totalled, I would have first dibs on it. I don't think hagerty offered me that.

Surprising. That's why the extra couple weeks in getting paid off. The adjuster looked at the car, took pictures and wrote up the damage and determined a write off. He "shopped" the car at a few salvage yards and told me I could have it for exactly what the highest bid was. Took the salvage price off the agreed value, the $100. deductible and sent me the cheque. They even paid the towing company a stupid amount of money for 25 days storage.

BobT, sorry you had problems with them but one insurance company is not for everybody, same as not one brand of car but that's a whole different subject.

I didn't realize they insured property only vehicles or was your electrical fire with the car ?
