Made up some rear body mounts and got them welded in. A piece of 16 gauge cut bent and welded. These will go in at the very back where the floor meets the tailpan.
Bolted in and shimmed the body to cut the rest of the floor out.
With all the old out, time to start making new panels. First is the new right side inner wheel tub.
Started with a cardboard template. Traced to a piece of 18 gauge, Bottom edge is rolled under and flatted. Inner raised panel done on bead roller. Top flange bent 90 degrees.
Had to stop on the body work for now cause next was the trunk floor. Can't build it till the fuel tank was installed. Can't install tank till it's built.
With some cutting, bending and a whole pile of welding I have a 18 gallon fuel tank out of aluminum. It's about 9.5" X 36" X 13" high. Had to build it this way to accept the fuel pump assembly.
Finally got around to plucking the donor driveline out. Pulled a valve cover off and was very pleased to find it spotless inside. The truck had 292,000 KM, so it must of been well maintained. Removed as much wiring harness as I could, under hood, under dash and to the fuel tank. Will start stripping it some time.
Tossed it in the frame, leveled and squared. Tack welded a 2X2 tube to the bottom of the frame to hold the trans up and shim it to location. Started to make engine mounts. I had already made up the block mounts, just a matter of locating the engine and making some tabs to the frame.
Got the car together and managed to put 5000 km om it last year. Drove great, a few bugs to work out. Torn it apart to start painting, got the dash painted and reassembled, very happy with the result.
