I'm thinking about getting the wagon painted because its starting to blister on the bottom of the doors and there are a few war wounds here and there. I went to a local body shop who I've dealt with in the past because they actually did bodywork and not just replaced panels. He said he's out of that game now and just basically does insurance work and replaces panels. He said theres not many guys now doing what I want because they're losing their shirts when quoting jobs and then finding all kinds of hidden horrors when they get in to the job. He recommend I find a restoration shop that will work on a time and materials basis and take the car down to bare metal and start fresh. Now I'm not looking for the Maaco $499 special but I don't really want to take it to bare metal. Is there anyone out there doing what I want? Or am I totally dreaming?
