After we received a general (blind) appraisal on the truck at  $5835 plus tax less deductable  ($ 6293.00)   my Grandson rejected the offer...disbelief

I had a copy of the info, and I e-mailed the Economical Ins. claims person (Troy Dams) and asked him to look a little harder at the settlement offer...wink

I reminded him "nicely" that I have been with Economical for 41 years  (still am) and that I had many folks watching via "Social Media" smile

I explained that the truck had been mine, and I had given it to Reeve for his first vehicle...

Troy responded and asked for photos etc..  Last Monday we got a note from him, saying that the Economical adjuster was "re-appraising" the truck based on photos..biggrinbiggrin

Today!     Reeve gets news the claim settlement is $9200.00

I want to publicly thank Troy Dams from Economical for interceding on our behalf....handshake.gif

wow 41 yrs. have you ever shopped them, say in the last 5 yrs?  there are some big changes happening in the ins industry now and it is being driven by the banks. they got into the industry 5-6-7 yrs ago and are causing some big changes. you will notice a whole bunch of the smaller brokers are selling out, or amalgamating, to create strength in volume numbers and this is a stop gap also. you will notice 1 or 2 of the banks are advertising their ins with the byline at the end, of talk to one of our "non-commision reps." in other words direct to the ins company. brokers work on % or commish if you like and the banks are basically going straight to the street which is eliminating the middle man, or call it broker.

-here's the poop, at work i had my girl shop ins this year. i had been with a local broker and friend for X number of years and my existing policy was approx 31,000.00, and the new one went up about 3000.00. this is all commercial coverage, no personal. a couple of buildings and about a dozen vehicle's, delivery trucks and cars. i didn't get involved with the shopping till she came to me with an offer that was what i thought a mistake due to how much difference there was in pricing.  it went from 31g to 20,000.00 and i figured there was some sort of mistake. for a 1000.00-1500.00 i probably wouldn't of changed but this was way beyond that. when the new guy came to my office and showed me the coverage was the same and a couple of things better i said give me a couple of days to go over it and if it checks out i'm in. i went over it, took it to my broker friend and he went over it and agreed it was and said he couldn't even come close to it. when the guy came back and i signed up i asked him whats the poop here with this much difference and he replied since the banks have got into the industry they are basically going direct to the street and now the ins companies are starting to do the same, no brokers. he works direct for the ins company not a broker. my friend the broker said this is the way it was headed also. the biggest saving was the vehicle's about 60 to 65% of it.

-anyway, thats a fair bit of savings for just having my girl shop around. i asked the guy about my personal stuff and he said they don't do small farm stuff, yet, and are basically concentrating on commercial stuff for now. this haggerty buying lant out is probably some more amalgamation. they probably have 2 or 3 states with more policies than lant had in all canada.  it don't cost nothing to shop around and you might get a surprise. make sure it's apples to apples in coverage but you won't have a broker standing up for you either.

Interesting Rick. I too have been with my ins co for 40 some yrs and have been happy with my coverage. I never considered shopping because if I am happy with something I don't usually change just to save a couple of bucks. But yours was way more than a couple of bucks. Food for thought on Monday as we have my son's cars , my wife's cars , and my cars all with the same company, could be some savings there. Ed

another little bitty i usually do ed is get all my coverage on everything come due at the same time. it sometimes take a bit when you add something new cause when you call for a price and you agree, they will start right then for a year. i tell them no but to pro rate it till he end of my existing policy term with the whole bundle. i am only writing one cheque a year. now you are shopping with a bundle and usually more than one company but it is all on one day of the year and it is over till next yr. my personal bundle is 2 companies and business is 1 company at 1 month apart.
