splitting Bell dish signal

I bought an RCA model DT140M powered splitter and when I put it in line it does not work either power or not. Going on line has not been of any help, even the RCA site. Has anyone used this splitter and could help me?

What signal are you trying to split? The signal from the dish to the satellite receiver? If so, you can't do that. The LNB on the dish will have separate outputs.

Yes the sig from the LNB to two receivers. I have a non power splitter that I put in and do get both receivers working but with some signal loss at times which is why I bought the RCA unit. Some say it works great and other have no signal, like mine.

Why not just run another wire from the dish? There should be 4 outputs.

I have done that on my other house but at this time I'm not able to drill any more holes in this place, which is why I'm asking about the splitter.

I have a Shaw dish, but I think the work the same. My understanding is that each receiver must have its own line coming to it from the dish, no splitting before the receiver.

Do what I did get rid of the dish and get a TV antenna no more bills. I was paying more to watch a show about someone else's car than to pay for insurance gas and maintenance for my car for the year! Figure it out what it costs for a dish for the year.

I hear ya on the cost, but where I live, an antennae would get 3 channels, one being French

Yes I'm just about ready to get rid of my dish too. Bell keeps taking shows away so another package is needed.

It's pretty bad when it cost more to watch TV then it cost for gas to heat the house,,shop heat the water,, cook meals and barbecue.

I am a big fan of Detroit and we don't get any Detroit stations on Bell which is another negative of Bell. With a good antenna I could pick up Detroit

From Newcastle were I get 31 stations without moving the rotor. I get US stations from Buffalo to Rochester with a clearer picture than satellite. You do not need all the receivers and converters that people think you need with an antenna, your flat screen TV has all that built into it. I get the US programing that the Bell campaigned to have illegal so you have to buy there's. If there is something I want not on TV there is the internet. The best antenna's are the ones from the 1980s as all antenna's are HD.

+1 on major sucking from bell.
I HATE THEM!
(screwed because I need them for dial-up)
the splitting thing is due to the distance from the LNB to the splitter.

Check your splitter for Frequency range. LNB output is a higher freq(10-40 GHz) than over air TV signals ( GHz vs Mhz) some splitters only work at the lower MHz freqs.

If you are fortunate with clear line of site that the dish is low on the outside wall and is 3 feet of cable away from the splitter you may have luck with low loss.
GhZ splitters are available because almost everything wire less is in that spectrum, but they are pricier (quality).High freqs are less susceptible to noise interference from power lines 60 Hz but will interfere with each other (cell, cordless phones and routers) in close proximity.

OUCH!
Lucky you only have to put up with one third world channel, babbling about poutine, how healthly smoking is for you and why Canada can't live without them.
Try getting "live in person" everyday. If they separate I heard real estate in Syria is cheap. The federal government could fund that move.

For all those who said you can't use a splitter here is a splitter for up to 4 receivers.

Most of the posts on here have nothing to do with my original post and have been added by people who seem to post just to post. No one has had any experience with the splitter  I asked about and the posting went south, I did not ask what you thought of Bell or if I should use a different system. When people said it could not be done I researched and found it could be done successfully and posted it.

petebil, PLEASE read my first post before you ask why I put this post up in the first place.

Well, by some of the posts, it would seem that I shouldn't take my tower down.

It was my understanding that when they killed analog and went completely digital, my tower was useless. All the channels I once got, were gone overnight and they were.

I haven't had a TV running for years now, except for a VCR or DVD and that's even rare.

Recently (last week) a customer dropped off one of those new fangdangled 50" flat screen weapons as a Christmas gift. What I've read here, is, it will pick up the signal from the tower and Tada, I have channels again.

Sucks I have the tower down except the base (in concrete).

In my case, I'm glad Henry started this. Good for me, bad for Carl, when he gets here to put the tower sections back up for me.

Yep, everyone with old TV's and the typical antenna lost all channels when all signal broadcasting changed to digital.  Your antenna actually still worked (and continues to work), it's just that older TV's weren't able to accept the digital signal.  Two possible solutions, you can buy a digital converter box that gets installed between the antenna and the old TV ($40- $50 I think) or you can buy a new TV that has a digital converter built into it.

An added bonus to using an antenna is the signal is Hi-definition, so the picture quality is terrific (if you have a newer TV that accepts a Hi-definition signal, you wouldn't notice the difference with an old TV).

I have rabbit ears and a tiny TV to get fockin annoyed by bell/ctv/cjoh's incompetence to report accurate news. Channel 8 near ottawa must still be analogue.
Really only watch for the weather.

I worked with microwave radios (signals for the US military), as with any "over air" signal the further from the antenna the weaker the signal, therefor to split a signal depending on strength you should as close to the antenna (LNB) as possible.

Many stations have been switched to digital (in Canada) but I think the US forced all stations to change.

No one has ever climbed my tower and the guy that set up my antenna was very impressed as he did every thing on the ground. Not many installers will climb over 50 feet and seeing mine is well over that I fabricated a hinge to raze and lower it.  This way I can service it myself if I ever have to.

You can't split the signal from the dish to two receivers, you need a 2nd head on the dish and a second line in to the second receiver. You can run a splitter on the receiver output to two TVs but they both have to watch the same channel.

FWIW, an additional receiver is only $5 more per month ... not worth the hassle of a splitter.
