so - I am not busy enough with the Beaumont build so my friend Rob who owns the truck started on a second build here in my shop as it is for all intents and purposes an identical build - twin turbo 6l with a 4l80e tranny - so why not make two of everything as we go?
so this week we got the old motor , front brakes, rear axle, all front sheet metal off, and mock up motor/trans installed, new 9" rear axle installed, and new disc brake kit with 2" lowering spindles installed
I forgot to take pics of the truck before we started - but oh well
its getting 18" wheels we had sitting around from a new mustang and drag radials for the back
also got the hydrostat brakes mounted ready for lines

some more of last weekends work in between Beaumont works
fabricated the fuel cell framework and go the tank mounted
also although I didnt take any pics we got the 9" Ford rear axle stripped, new axle brackets fabbed up and the axle bolted down ready to set pinion angle and then to final welding of the perches
todays work - taking 4" out of the rear axle to centre the pinion as Fords have 15/16 pinion offset as well as Ford offsets the motor trans 3" in the chassis and Chevy doesnt do that
new disc brake setup mounted with one snag - the hub centres of the new race axles are substantially larger than the hole centre of the brake rotors so we will have to chuck the rotors into the lathe to open them up a tad
Great project. Thanks for post'n them both. We are going to do an LS swap in my sons 87 Camaro, so I'm sure we will pick up some good info from your threads.

well - no work on the Beaumont this weekend - too many hours on the truck and lots done
my friend Rob and the trucks owner is a great fabricator and welder - he can make mig look like some one tigged a stack of dimes
battery boxes, fuel system lines, oil and tranny coolers, back brace on the 9" , trac bar brackets, and well under way on the re-wire of the pcm harness to place the pcm in the cab, and to hide as much of the rest of the harness as possible, and some new bling

I can not take any credit for this fab work - except for the wiring, and discussion on what and how to proceed on things and helping out as apprentice by holding things, and such...smiles - Rob is doing the brunt of the work on this build
the hardest part is finding real estate to hang things that dosent interfere with something else - we were a couple hours just finding a suitable place for the coolers to be mounted, for example that didnt interfere with exhaust, suspension, driveshaft etc and still get decent airflow, same with the ignition coils, pcm , and the new shifter which we havent yet resolved, and shortening the upper tank fittings 3/8" to clear the underside of the bed because one bed crosser was too close after a test fit of the bed...........
but its all fun right ....

quick little update on the 61 - been kinda sidetracked for a few weeks
turbo headers and turbos mounted, and intake piping fabbbed up
had to cut the turbo flange off the passenger header to straighten it by over a 1/4" so turbo sat square - gotta love chinese parts - but it looks good now
pcm wiring integrated into the main harness, all of the various boost lines, vacuum lines, exhaust and wastegate piping done and tigged up, and batteries wired in
finally ready to test fire tomorrow after fluid changes and such
this truck is finally done as its going to get for this year and is back on the road
All I can say is WOW - 15 psi boost is just insane
It will spin the tires at any speed we have tried it at so far, all the way up to 125 mph - and let me tell you - feeling the ass end start to move around when you stab the pedal at 125 mph makes for the biggest **** eatin grin you ever saw.
Truck is amazing to drive - its totally docile until you step on it hard.
Mileage at the moment isn't that great - but tuning should get that in order.
It will be on the dyno to get a better tune in it in a couple weeks
