Ford 302 EGR plate gasket fit
Permalink

Hi folks,
I bought the Edelbrock 4 bbl EGR plate for the 302 and have found that the gasket that goes under it has an opening that is a bit too long on the supply side to the EGR valve and extends to the downstream side by about 1/8 of an inch, creating a situation where exhaust gas can bypass the EGR valve entirely. I have the Edelbrock and FelPro versions of the same gasket, and they both do it.
I don't think I should leave it like this, because it will create a big vacuum leak.

What should I do?

Thanks.

Take some pics, include an explanation of why you don't think this EGR plate is going to work as intended then email Edelbrock directly. They made it, they should be able to explain it. Who knows, maybe they are aware they ran a bad batch of plates at some point and yours is one of them.

in the time it takes to take pics and email eddelbrock you could make a gasket if you get the gasket material

That crossed my mind as well but the EGR gasket for a 1970's Chev GM V8 (just using the GM V8 as an example due to personal experience) isn't just a piece of cardboard trimmed to fit, it seems to have an aluminum core with material on both sides, most likely so it can survive the heat.  If the gasket that comes with the EGR plate is nothing more than usual carboardy-like (confusebiggrin) gasket material, by all means, just buy some gasket material from a parts store and cut one yourself.

I'd still be sending Edelbrock the pic and complaint though, it would be interesting to hear what they have to say (although, in my own personal experience, Edelbrock will NOT be interested in accepting any fault).

You mention you purchased the EGR plate but did not tell us what intake you have.
Are you running a Ford intake and adding the Edelbrock spacer?
or do you have an Edelbrock intake?
I can see the mismatch if the parts are not all edelbrock.
