fake furnace inspectors around the Ottawa area's

From a local facebook page

There are official looking "safety inspectors" wanting to see you furnace and water heater immediately. One was by my house this evening. This is a ruse to sell you a gas plan or maintenance plan. Don let them in.

We had the water heater scam a couple of years back down here ........came to the door on a couple of occasions . I simply never buy anything door-to-door any more , not even Girl Scout cookies .

I had water heater one actually just push the door open and try to just step past me and walk in the house after I said no thanks. I stopped him and wouldn't let him past me, but glad he didn't get too aggressive back, dude was HUGE lol... I thought a home invasion was about to start up. I was waiting for the rest of the guys to come around the corner....

Seriously, just tell them you rent the house.

As soon as they hear that I rent (which I don't), they turn and leave .... works great.

 I respectfully disagree smile

"Get lost" or whatever wink   suggests that you aren't particularly interested, are too busy at the moment etc but that may not stop them from pitching in the hope that you will change your mind when they get the chance to explain what a great deal you're about to get.  You also risk getting into an argument with an overly aggressive salesperson.  On the other hand, "I rent" means "I don't give a crap about this house, the water heater, furnace, air cond or whatever and even if I did I couldn't sign a contract as I'm not the homeowner".

Trust me, when you say "I rent" they have nothing to gain and quite literally don't want to waste another minute of their time.

before they get to the door I usually open it and start the conversation off right with "WHAT ARE YOU SELLING" It just kind of starts things off in the right tone.

After that they are usually easy to finish off with '' I'M NOT INTERESTED".

Works for me

Last night the phone rang (it only rings about once a week) the guy said I am from (some outfit) we do phone surveys for _ _ _ _ (the financial institution I use)

I immediately said I will have to talk to them about giving out my phone number. He said thank you and hung up.

Who ever supplies your Gas/Propane/Oil will have a record of your heating system.

Yes, they will do an inspection every 10 or 12 years, but certainly don't come knocking your door.

TSSA does not sub out "Inspections". Slim is a G2 or G1 guy I thought. He'd know better than I would these days.

Carry on, just my thought.

Ya the guys here like to complain about the Nigerian phone calls but that is as far as it go's. I am with you V8deuce. I enjoy when company drops by unexpectedly!!!! I have even had the duct cleaning guys come to my door three times now. Walk them to there truck telling them sorry I changed my mind do not need them now.  Even had a window and door guy come to the house that booked me over the phone. I phoned a buddy when I seen him pull in and had him wait on the porch telling him I will be just a minute. He waited patently for 15 Min. watching me through the glass door then he finally left in a huff. Keep up the good work V8deuce.

I love when the furnace guys call, I ask them if they can beat my price. Free. That's what I do for a living.

Our friend was called about duct cleaning. She said no thank you, we just let them go in the pond with the geese. And she was serious. She has since passed on but we kidded her about that for years ! !

I was once called by a chimney and duct cleaning service.

They said:  Do you know how dangerous your chimney is after a few years?

I played along: No, how dangerous is it?

They responded:  Well it depends on your type of heat. Do you realize that your ducts are full of allergens too?

Me: Really? wow, I guess I better do something about that!

Them: So what kind of heat do you have?

Me: Electric. Is that bad?

They hung up.
