The rear end in my Cady is getting noisey,so im thinking of going with a 9in. It needs to be complete rear end ,about 64 to 66 in. face to face ,5 on5 bolt ,3 to 3.5 gear. Im thinking truck with pinion centered.not off to one side. Anybody have one?

Look for one from a Van, as they are the width you need, and some came with 5x5 bolt pattern. There was one or two on kijiji last time I was looking for a 9" a few weeks ago.

there was never a Ford of any kind made with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern - they are all 4.5 or 5.5 bolt circles

Couple things:

toomuchjunk, pls email me your avatar pic.

4.5 is pretty much standard on 9". The old vans also were sporting 28 and 32 spline and many were 456 posi !

Again, when you guys find one, I need some ebrake stuff for the Supernash.

Carry on

I thought all the vans had offset pinions? I was wondering if an Explorer rear would be any good?

too much junk - i have owned 5 of those old lincolns from 69-74 and they were not 5x5 on any of mine
most Fords have at least a 7/8" offset, and many had 3" as the drivelines in many Fords were offset 3" allegedly to counterbalance the driver wieght for a total of 3 7/8" offset

we just took 4" out of our 9" on the drivers side to centre the pinion in the 61 we are building

a friend was in tafts wrecking last week and pulled two 9" rearends out of mid 70's fords, think he said 1 was a thunderbird, both were 5 on 5. so they are out there.

nahhh - I may be the one who is worng - lol - maybe old age and poor memory on my part

but if memory serves  - we may be talking two different animals

the Lincoln and Thunderbird axles with 5x5 bolt patterns were not 9"  they were an oddball 9 1/4 or some such and nothing interchanged with a 9"

Thanks toomuchjunk-it looks like 73 to 79 Lincolns are the 5 on 5 bolt patterns and they may also be the 9 and a quarter in. gear. They are all a low numerical hiway gear. I put one in a 55 gasser I built and could not get aftermarket gears. Good strong rearend tho. I would take another if it wasnt too wide. 73 to 78 Mercurys are 5 on 5 too- humm

I'm relying on my memory here but I think the rear you are thinking of may be a 9 3/8" and some parts did interchange ..... a 9" center will drop right into a 9 3/8 housing but a 9 3/8 center won't fit a 9" housing.  I believe the 9 3/8 rears had 31 spline axles.

I thought the big bolt pattern was 5x5?  My mistake if its not.  I don't really mess with fords much,  except for the rearends.  I was sure I have had ford rears with 5x5 pattern.

The 9 3/8" rear is basically a 9" with a bigger ring gear.  Axles, housing, etc are standard 9" except for the housing being notched at the bottom for ring gear clearance.  The center is completely different and can be identified by one of the ribs on the drivers side turns downwards, while all 9" rear have basically straight ribs.  They only came with highway gears, are all 31 spline,  and limited slips are very hard to find.  There is zero aftermarket support.

Thanks Racer Rick-From my research I found that most are 5on 4 1/2 or 5 on 5 1/2 Some 70s Lincoln and Mercurys are 5 on 5. The Lincolns are the large ring gear. The Mercs may even be 8in rears. I have not decided yet,I may have to rebuild the Cady rear.
