I "think" you'll have to see a lawyer, & register it as a "kit" car!!! I would do this before you start your project & get an unfit ownership for a appraised value of the beginning of build. If you wait till finished you'll get 'hammered' on TAXES for finished car. Being a "kit" car you will likely have to upgrade emissions too!!!!

The rules have just completely changed on bringing non-steel cars into Canada. We have already talked at length on here about this. If you intend to build the car here, I wouldn't make too much noise where the body came from. You cannot register a car until a certain amount of the car is present, but dualquadpete is correct in saying, register it as soon as possible or you will be paying HST on the car at it's appraised value regardless whether you paid tax on parts already or not.
From CBS web page . not saying it can't be done but this is there stand on the mater.
Replica Cars
91. Replica cars are treated as vehicles at importation. As they lack the necessary certification to comply with CMVSS, they are not admissible for importation unless they were assembled 15 or more years ago (or a bus manufactured prior to January 1, 1971) and the importer can submit proof of age (e.g., a registration document). Note that the age of a replica car is assessed using the final date of assembly of the replica, not the model year it replicates.
92. When no identification markings whatsoever exist on a vehicle to validate the age-exempt status of the vehicle, the vehicle does not qualify for importation using the “non-regulated due to age” exemption and are inadmissible.
93. The most common examples of inadmissible replica vehicles are:
(a) vehicles modified into hot rods, street rods using a donor body and chassis where no identification markings whatsoever exist on the vehicle that can be used to validate the age-exempt status of the donor chassis with the paperwork being supplied by the importer;
(b) vintage replica vehicles including vehicles built from kits, where no identification markings whatsoever exist on a vehicle that can be used to validate the age-exempt status of the vehicle with the paperwork being supplied by the importer.
Kit Cars
94. Kit cars whether fully assembled or unassembled are treated as vehicles at importation. As they lack the necessary certifications to comply with CMVSS, they are not admissible for importation unless they were assembled 15 or more years ago and the importer can submit proof of age (e.g., a registration document). The age of a kit car is determined by the final date of assembly of the kit, not the model year it replicates.
What about a Canadian Fiberglass body on a custom frame ..lets say a T-Bucket for example.
And lets say it was a mostly finished, running car in 1980 but never registered.
And just for sake of argument it was sold to me in 1980 with an original 1927 ownership.
What kind of steps do you suggest to get it into my name all nice and legal like ?

Don't worry about the 6 days to change the ownership thingy that doesn't always apply. I think they changed it to 36 years and 6 days or something like that
