Cruise in age restricksion?????

Trying to get opinions from members that do the cruise's, the guys I 'run' with are getting a little "PO;d at all the "NEW" Camaro's, Mustang's, Mopar's etc. that are being let in to some of the cruise's. In our opinion, if we want to see these we'd go to the new car dealership. Some cruise's have a year limit, usually 1990 & older, but some don't & these new cars are getting more & more & the "oldies" are sometimes left out on the street, or spectators parking area or just go home when they can't get in!!  Monday night just north of Peterborough there was even a 2016 Nissan SUV taking up a spot in the line up in park!!!  Spoke by e-mail to promoter but got nowhere, these cars "up" their attendance #'s!!![ even though the park is 'stuffed" & cars outside don't get counted]  Uxbridge Cruise is the same way & getting worse!!!  So these Cruise's will be getting "knocked" off our list of ones to attend, & only go to the ones that limit the age!!! Not trying to stir the pot,  Just looking to get other opinion????

I agree Pete but for the hobby to survive we will have to let the next generation pick the cars that they relate to attend the shows and cruises. Time marches on and you and I are getting left behind for the newer tin that you add a few bolt on items. When it breaks you just go and buy another one off the lot. For myself I try and attend prewar and vintage events on both sides of the boarder and they are also getting smaller groups of cars.

We get that down here too but I would think it's a mistake to start excluding people ........we have several new Mustangs show up and a few newer sports cars . Their owners seem to hang out together . OK by me if everyone is enjoying themselves . I think you just open a can of worms if you start barring people because of what they drive .

The newer cars there, I just walk by them. On Sunday at the Prescott show there was a ?? looked like a stock smart car. A bit ridicules in my opinion, but I don't run any shows.

The cycle repeats. Bet the rodders and racers felt the same way back at the end of the 60s and start of the 70s when all those new Chargers, GTOs, Mustangs , 409s etc came out and ruined the vibe. Its the same now the kids want tuners, old guys want the factory muscle cars. The hobby evolves and some get left behind. I do think the minivans should atleast have a couple of mods if they are going to take up a spot though. Just call me pining for the oldstyle weekend rodruns like in the70s and 80s. Ed

Cruise nights are a good opportunity to expose younger generations to hotrods and classics etc. The older folks grew up with these cars, the younger guys have almost no exposure at all to this stuff. It's not that they only want tuners, it's that it's all they know.

I never even knew what a hotrod was until not too long ago when I finally discovered this stuff. I think a lot of the older folks take the knowledge of these cars and hobby for granted

Also insirance companies aren't making it easy either.

Cruises down my way have mostly opened up to allow many cars that we as hotrodders would never consider..it saddens me a bit ..but if you look at the ages of most hotrodders, we're getting old and a lot of us are passing away! Who's left? Young people! The average young guy can't afford a hot rod so they do the next best thing..they get what they can afford! Personally I'm a fan of all mustangs so my view will be biased...lol..it's our job to get these youngsters interested in our hobby...even the NSRA understood what was happening..they changed the cutoff years from 48 to include later models...why? Because attendance and involvement were dwindling down! Nothing excites my blood like a streetrod or streetmachine from the early days! Just my opinion!

True the hobby is going to go through a long popularity decline regarding the older cars. I will never forget in the mid 60s a friend payee Ron Fawcett $1,000. for an original 1936 Ford roadster. Everyone laughed at him for paying such a large sum for such a newer car. Now a days you do not see the early cars especially no brass cars around like there was at one time. Another thing how often did you see an engine with a blower on it or an aluminum engine at your local hangout in the 60s. I only seen that kind of stuff in a magazine or large show back then. So time marches on out with the old and in with the new. And if you have not noticed we are the old.

I think we as car enthusiasts should welcome any neat car, new or old. If we want to grow this hobby or even keep it where it is we need young people involved and most of them wouldn't walk across the street to look at an old car. But, if there's cases there that they like they might eventually see the attraction of real Hot Rods and muscle cars and get involved. I personally don't care much for rat rods (specially some of the absolute crap you see in the States) but they are affordable and it's a way for young guys to get started.

Seems to be a resurgence at the race track for young folks.....  e.g  St Thomas

I don't know why all the "old guys" want to limit the year of vehicle ?

I'm 67 and still love hot rods and muscle cars and new muscle

So I just stay away    Kinda boring watching old guys falling asleep in their lawn chairs

I was looking at a friends sons car today

no one wants him at old car cruise nights

Hes 20   look at his hot rod

These cruise ins are usually at a public parking lot, so how can you stop anyone from parking there.
Some people just have to learn to relax a bit.

Most of the cruises here are organised by a local car club or Lions clubs etc. & are held in town parks, or churches. but the & of "new" cars is starting to "out number" the classics & oldies" I'm now attending the cruise's & car shows, that have a "age limit" [ 1989 & older] where at all possible & the gang I run with all feel the same, I didn't want to stir the pot, just find out if this is happening all over??

I'm seeing this a bit differently and don't get me wrong I really like my old cars.  Back in the 80's, we had big V8 engines producing 220 HP.  Modifying cars was the only way to go if you wanted some driving excitement.  Back then, you could find good used parts or high quality replacements and my body did not hurt like hell after installing a camshaft.  I'm finding the quality of the aftermarket parts now is dismal.  Check out the attached picture of a Cloyes timing chain after 10k.  The tech at Cloyes claims that their double roller "race" series are not engineered for street use, WTF?.  Finding good NOS parts is also getting crazy.  The other concern for me is safety, I was heading home from work one day by the metro zoo and a young girl crossed the center line and hit me head on.  If I was driving the Challenger as I had been the day before it may have ended badly.  These days you can buy a 600hp car relatively cheap, travel around with A/C and the security of a warranty and if something happens I don't have the guilt of putting myself or the people I car about at risk.  I recently sold the Challenger, in part because I see the values of the old cars slipping recently and I don't like the exposure.  I still have the 67 Fastback and I'm pretty excited about it but I have to admit a new Challenger would probably fit my lifestyle better.  I actually like seeing the newer cars at the shows.  Its nice to see something fresh and see the energy that youth brings to the hobby.

Now if you are talking old cars in general like you see at cruses ACCCC started the Vintage Touring Group for example. Where if you have a pre war 1942 and older car they have day and weekend touring events. It says as long as you belong to a car club you are welcome but your car has to be original for their event. This is a great format as it gives people to get together with a common interest in a specific type of car event. Now if other clubs would start this for just early rods for example everyone would have the common interest at the event. We went to the Smith Falls event and there was 39 cars from four different clubs the oldest car was a 1910 Ford and the newest was a 41 Buick. Had a great time and with the numbers of members in clubs dwindling because of old age I think this is a great program and hope other clubs pick up on it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The day is coming when you will see clubs folding due to lack of membership and it is clubs that keep this hobby alive.  HASK one of the largest Ontario clubs that used to host the first weekend of Dec. flea market at the Toronto airport center that is now hosted by Motor City Rod club is hurting I am told.

Asked to join in with my 10 and 15 year old cars. My 01 is a really rare GT1 in decent shape needs some touch up paint and really hard to come by with ram air hood and everything, was denied when there was a few modern cars such as corvette and trans ams that is younger than my two cars. I dont understand how someone has to profile other people because what the drive, and only having classic cars are actually profiling others and actually makes me mad because others cant have fun because of what they drive and they put hours into it and blood sweat and tears into my ride! I put so much love into my project.

I want the organizers to let up on that CLASSIC OR MUSCLE CAR RULE! I think it is WRONG and should let modern cars, original or slightly or heavily modded to enjoy and join in, I feel this is wrong and I feel this is discrimination in a way towards the younger audience and female drivers.

I am sad that things have to be this way, competition between modern and classic cars, Its sad that things have to be this dumb. I feel that people shouldnt have to be told NO if want to join in, it should be accepted to any car shows. I find that people with Classic cars look at us weird with more modern car. I feel this is my opinion, people should accept everyone who what they drive, as ugly as 26 inch rims on a car but they should be accepted.

I have nothing against the newer cars at cruises or car shows . They should all be allowed in and its up to the spectators to stop and have a look at them. Myself, my interest is in the "older" models that I can relate to my youthful foolish days. The newer cars, I just keep walking by. After the 70s muscle car era theres not much to interest me although there are some cars out there that are good looking and powerful.

I have the same feeling about the various cars I see at a cruise ...if it doesn't interest me , I keep on walking . I don't diss the guy , he ( or she ) is proud of their vehicle and that's the way it should be . The newer car folks seem to park near each other and I'm sure they are enjoying themselves too.
