How to wire a single bulb for park/ signal usage

Here is a front park/ signal light diagram that 2d_willys on the HAMB posted for me. For some reason it will not load here?

In the park lamp wire add a 20ohm, 1W resistor and in both wires add a # 1N4001 diode. Use a 1129 or an 81 bulb.

Why would you want to do this? the standard bulb for parking lights is an 1156 bulb which is rated at around 27 watts. The bulb you suggest on using is only rated at around 17 watts. Put a 20 Ohm resistor in series with that same bulb and you'll barely be able to see it at night.
Will it work? yes !
Should you do it? no

This is useful if you have a single filament socket in your parking lite, and can't get a double filament bulb/socket in there.
