My 17 year old daughter would like to drive our 1931 Ford Coupe streetrod (glass car) once in awhile. Do any Classic/Vintage insurance companies cover newer drivers?
Not sure entirely how this works .However intact insurance has a program that monitors the way the car is driven through a device that plugs into the cars computer black box an sends information back to the insurer..
For reduced Rates.(just bought a collision car that had one in it)
Not sure how this would work in a Hotrod/streetrod such as yours or the options they offer might be worth looking into to help her get behind that wheel instead of just hearing the BIG NO CAN DO.

In short, NO.
Ontario law states drivers must have minimum 10 years driving experience to obtain or be insured under classic insurance. Does not mean at age 26 either. Its 10 years
driving experience no matter the age.
I called 30 companies and only found 1 that would insure my son for a vehicle over 20 years old. And the premium was $5800 per year with no coverage. Even the online quotes
do not even go back past 2o yrs of age with vehicle. Bel Air ex:
If you find any company the only way around it is to insure it fully not as a classic so your premium will be high.
Any licensed driver in the household must be insured or hold their own policy or sign a waiver that they will not drive any vehicle and insurance will be void if caught etc.
Sorry for the bummer news. But thats the info I got year ago. Unless things have changed , please advise me.
When I had my 88 Mustang anyone under 25 could not drive it. I was with Lant and it was under their classic policy. Not sure what insurance company you have, but would check with them to see if they would let your 17 year old drive it occasionally with a waiver or certain stipulations. (example you must be with her) Hope this helps, and best of luck.

Well thats basically the info I got yesterday from four different classic car insurance companies. Daughter is totaly bummed and frankly so am I. How are we supposed to get the youth involved in old cars when they can't even drive them??!! A real shame....:o(
Pay the $5800 like any other youth. The reason for $100 insurance is because the cars are driven little and by drivers with 10 years or more experience. I don't want some child driving up my collector car rates. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the way it is.

What irritates me the most.....a 16 yr old in Michigan can get classic car insurance. It is not the Insurance company that mandated this. It is Ont law. :( Trust me. Im not happy about it either.

Below is recent document sent off= A view of opinion:
Thanks xxxx
Keep in mind the alleged fines against anything to do with xxxxx were an are not speeding tickets...
xxxxx simply does not speed ...its not worth the b/s also the last truck xxxx had an traveled in had a governor installed by xxxx an would not exceed 90 km it was an old 350 olds diesel (custom built) under the hood an was awesome on fuel...xxxxx sold such truck with reget...lol.
Also keep in mind all these alleged fines against any alleged license were put against such with malice intentions ..Negligence Through police misconduct...ill will with extreme prejudice.
Again if these folks in the article really did receive such tickets in the pursuit of public safety then thats a total different issue then what xxxx has ever experienced...xxxx has many witnesses to these above facts from all different walks of life...
In xxxx opinion after being treated unfairly by police/An justice system with ill will an intent an the alleged system of the hiway traffic act treating xxxx like a broken toilet.
As mentioned in our convo. Ya just dont keep using a toilet that keeps returning the sh-it..Rather then the way such was designed to flush carry away an move on..
No one would keep Sh-ittting in a toilet that was over flowing with Sh-it with no remedies to repair such a device.
xxxx has/had lived such a life as this toilet an is done feeding such a broken device. He will not continue to feed such a system that treated him with prejudice left him an family swimming in a world (pool} of sh-it.
If anyone entered a contract an realized the contract was rigged <no one would renew such contract(s) especially when such infringed the natural rights of the well being of any such individual(s) A contract must be beneficial to all parties part an parcel of such contract(s) to be legally valid.
Simply put they are not...
An such does not meet the definition of a free an democratic social structure...the practice or principles of social equality.
As mentioned xxxxxx did not ask nor ever deserved to be treated like such an has/had the right to remove himself from such wrong doing an criminal actions of the Durham regional police services...
xxxx is not alone with the suffering such has/had caused...xxxx seem's to be the lone wolf that has/had taken a stand against these injustices....To save himself an family from further harm(s)
The system to which you are empolyed is broken like the toilet mentioned above...Adding more Encumbrances upon the people of this nation is not the answer...To make or convert a right in to a privilege is also wrong. As our forefathers did "NOT" repeat Did "NOT" fight kill an die for a nazi based system of
communism....We are here on this planet for a short time.xxxx has no time to be a target of an abusive system any longer .He just wants to enjoy all his GOD given rights in his pursuit of liberty an happiness...
xxxx wishes you all you know the very best this planet has to offer an would like to get back to enjoying the freedom to explore this incredible world we have been blessed with.
You seemed to be the only one xxxx that has actually come to the round table of discussion to try an address these issues
An for that We "Dearly THANK YOU an the others who have made this possible"
P.S.[Thank You for article it is interesting to see how Desperate the folks who are elected to act for the common good only act for the common good of themselves]
If they really wanted to act for the common good of the people in the common wealth they would reinstate the original mandate
Of the bank of Canada.Freeing the people of slavery an service-tude which are prohibited in all forms by international laws.]

I'm not sure that statement can be anymore wrong! Seen many many drivers with 10 years plus plus drive like complete fools!! If they want put restrictions on younger drivers; can't drive without owner in car; can't drive at night; can't drive with more than one passneger etc etc. but pretty hard to keep youth involved in the classic car hobby if all they can do is work on or help with the car and not have a chance to drive it.
I insure my 70 Chevelle under regular insurance at a appraised value of over 30 grand. Insurance cost me a little over $800.00 a year with everything on it. A year ago I had my 56 caddy with appraised value of $15,000.00 cost me $700.00 a year both were insured at the same time, plus my wife's daily driver, my work truck is with the same company but insured under my business. I only put full coverage on them for 5-6 months this was cheaper then going with the classic insurance for me, this works out do half of the above premium. I have a 17 year boy, 18 year old daughter, and a 20 year old boy. They can drive these cars anytime, anywhere. I can now take these cars to work, for work, park in a mall parking lot, that them to church away on holidays. The insurance company knows about my kids and where and how I use the cars. That being said they don't drive them all the time. I look at it they all help working on them and helped on the Chevelle during its build and once my 37 Chev sedan is done I will do the same thing. I have looked at the classic insurance and with the restrictions I thought this was a better way to go.
