Starting this group to see if we can get a group of gassers together to run against each, put on a great show and have fun! Goal is to have enough cars to run a gasser only class with the ONDR as well as show the Ontario tracks and/or race promoters we would be a great compliment to a show they plan on having.
 Still lots of details to work out but key will be to keep things very simple including the rules. As of right now to race this gasser class it needs to be 1969 or older, have a straight or dropped front axle, no delay boxes/electronics, no air or electric shifters, no NOS and foot brake only. Basically if you have a 1969 or older car that has the look of a gasser and want to race against the same type of cars this group is for you!

Don Moyer is doing this basically south of the border. You might want to contact him and put on a unified front. There just are not enough cars of this type to go it alone. I'd like to see it include heritage altereds as well, not modern race cars made to look old as is mostly the case today.

Great idea but that sounds really expensive and I don't think there is an over abundance of date coded transmissions up here. I like the idea of vintage gasser or lookalikes racing . I used to enjoy the Picton Armdrops but haven't participated in the last few years because of the long wait times, no fun driving a couple hours to the event sitting in line all day and only getting 2 runs in. Seems like every late model Mustang and Hellcat ever made is running there.Armdrop could maybe have an event for older cars and another for newer cars. Gassers are a popular look as there are a few that show up to the Port Hope cruise . Possibility of maybe street driven(plates and street ins) and full on drag division. Cost is a real factor.I know a couple of guys in this area that would be interested in this type of event but it would need to be a reasonable fun to cost equasion as I would think there would be a very high percentage of fellow greybeard,( lots of enthusiasm not a lot of cashflow),participation. Ed

I enjoy watching Gas Class Cars. New cars with an old body just don't cut it. They could run 3 classes 8 , 9 and a 10lb per cubic inch. Heads up run in each class. It may help to bring back some crowds. Gas and Modified Production cars were crowd favourites .

   X2.   All though its great to see the  newer computerized race cars theres nothing that gets the juices flowing like an older early 60s gasser style car blasting off the line.

As great as Gas Class cars are, I like the Modified Production cars as they are more like the street driven cars.

I love Gassers, Altered's, Pro Mods....drag boats......motorized bar stools.......anything that'll go fast really......it's a good idea and Warren makes excellent points with experience to back it. Worse thing you could do is not try I figure.

A "dropped" axle on a gasser?
A straight axle, yes.
A beam axle, yes.
But a dropped axle?
I thought the idea was to get the front end up higher for weight transfer.

My car originally had a Ford Econoline dropped I-beam axle when my uncle raced it in the 60's and 70's. I ran it with that same axle for the first couple years until I started bending it up. Now has a FastTimes dropped tubular axle that takes a beating!

My progress on the HenryJ street gasser is on hold as we sold our county home and are building a garage at the cottage. I am setting the car up with an 80 Buick turbo V6, carb version but have built an inside frame that bolts into the frame and can accommodate any trans setup by sliding the trany cross member back. This gives me the opportunity to use just about any engine in it, thinking older Hemi??

Most Gasser groups restrict trany to a 4sp and I am going to use an auto or my Tremmic 5 sp. It sounds like some gassers at Byron are automatics?
