Just wondering what a flat head goes for these days.A friend of mine has a complete 47 Ford 2 door that has been sitting on a stone pile on his farm for the last 50 years.I am thinking it is probably locked up.
A neighbour just bought two flat head engines for $200 for the pair. Drove up to Owen Sound to get them. I don't know how complete they were when he got them or what year engines they are but I have seen the blocks, cranks, pistons, rods, cams etc (don't remember seeing any heads, intakes or oil pans but that doesn't mean they aren't around). I have absolutely NO idea why he bought them but he did and that's what he paid for them.
My understanding of flat head engines is that it is very hard to find one where the block isn't cracked.
My guess as to how to get top buck is to either get it running on a stand or take it completely apart, clean everything and verify the block is good.
Just an non-running, stuck lump of a flat head with no proof the block isn't cracked (even if it's complete) can't be worth much money.

Actually, in real racing ... it IS how fast you went.
there are a few different models research the engine numbers.as stated there are problems with cracks etc.may be why it was parked there are a multitude of reasons why it was left on rock pile.unless he is prepared to spend time tearing it down and sending it out to be checked by a reputable shop which wont come cheap.ie spend 300 to end up selling for 150best to just dream of it being a rare engine that he is going to get running one day
