The Vega is back in action again

It was parked for 10 years

It now has a 6-71 on it

Been to Shannonville for 2 Fri night mix + match s this spring (time trials)

cant get any traction , those fri night track conditions are terrible, I get the same or more bite on the road

MT 31x16.5 ET Streets , new

anyway its detuned right now to save the motor , 10% over , about 8 psi , hard to see guage at full throttle

Sure would like to make a full pass.  1/8 mile without pedaling so much

Just changed to manual valve body , to try starting in 2nd

going on sat to see if theres any bite on an actual race day , used to be

Got some 1.35 s or 38 s there back when I got bored and played with nitrous a little , right before I parked it

Yeah , so I ll be there sat morn , and if things are any good then I ll go back on sunday too

I am posting on here so interested people can check in to see what I am doing , maybe save on the - I wished I hada knowns , or are you goins

Im going to see about some recent pics

Arm drop dosent really intrest me

Limited traction

1/4 mile speeds are way too high for me , approching 160 mph , no thanks ,

I run 1/8 mile only , should be 125 ??

It is still a street car , but its not going on the road this year

Cool.

My first car ever (never plated/on the road) was a '72 Vega that was close to that same colour. Kept it in the parking lot of our local Canadian Tire and drove it around the parking lot on Sundays (back when everything was closed on Sundays) until they towed it out of the parking lot and dropped it at the side of the closest road. Had my Mom attempt to rope-tow me home but we ran over the rope and it broke so I fired it up and drove it the rest of the way. Had a hard time keeping oil in it as it burned oil almost as fast as it burned gas. I paid $50 for the car.

Speaking of Vegas, I saw a Cosworth Vega on the road the other day, we both pulled into the same parking lot so we shot the breeze for a bit ... kinda cool as I'd never seen one before.

Yea , they were crappy oil burnin little things

I always thought they were the coolest lookin little cars though

I had a 73 astre 4 speed when I was a kid

Bought 50 weight nugold in the gallon jug from crappy tire

finally smoked a rod bearing

put in a 66 buick V6  , still 4 speed

Learned real quick about broken spider gears

my brother must have been sick of rope towing me home

picked up this car around 1982 ?

Had a better body

some of the old astre is in the vega still now

astres and vegas are cool , any style

Awesome. That looks like a ton of fun Enjoy your ride. Had a cousin that lived on a cattle farm in Manitoba that built a blown 350 72 Vega. After it sat near finished for several years we made a deal and shipped it out by train. We finished the car ,slapped a paint job on it and ran it around town and at the track a few times. Best we got out of it was a high 10's. There is nothing like sitting behind a blower cruising down the road. Could not find any pics of it but came across some of " Longshot" "The Worlds Slowest Dragster"  front engine we used to run. Seeing your vids and finding these old pics brought back some great memories of an amazing time. Enjoy

Sunday

Ran 5.92  116.5

couldent get traction the rest of the day

I went up 5 jet sizes the end of sat , and lost about 1 mph , I want to stay rich for now to save the motor

still turns right when wheels are up

most times it starts to bite spins then hooks , 1.48 - 1.53

1.35 ish when it hooks

mostly 6.00 - 6.15

Next race is a month away

Next Fri night is the 22nd

Might be some bite left from this weekend , untill all the hondas and 4x4s ruin it again

I mean fri night is meant more for those guys anyway , right

I need to try it with the exhaust off

I can try leaving 2nd

Thanks man !

Dont tell nobody but it got quite a few blisters and stuff while it was parked

But yeah , it still looks good at race car distances and pics , which is good enough for now , heh, heh

Ive always been , make it faster , then worry about looking nice

I was hoping for more pics and video from this weekend

I usually have lots of people hanging around ,

but I told eveyone I was only doing fri nights this year

Thats the first time I ever was at the drags all alone , I kinda liked it except nobody to tell me what they see my car doing off the start line

That was my original purpose for posting on here ,

so people can just check in on here to see what Im doing

of course it will take a while for word to get around though

whats 5.92 at 166 convert to 1/4 mile times

To convert ET from 1/8 to 1/4 just multiply by 1.57

To convert MPH to 1/4 mile multiply by 1.26

My speeds were in the 116.5 to 116.9  range mostly

I assume thats what you meant , not 166

5.92 x 1.57 = 9.2944

116.9 x 1.26 = 147.294

Time for an up grade.
Stuff like this leads to death an a bad rap for other racers.

Also is the pic upside down?

If not the evidence is in the cards

Yes it got a better rod end

Ladder bars should ( and do ) have safety loops around the front rod ends , to catch in case of breakage

A bent one like this , just causes handling problems

actually , the pic is the right way up , the bar lifts the rear the car on acceleration
