Seeing Lindsay Swap Meet has had bad weather the past few years and the Barrie yard sale moving to its new home by North Bay there is a new date change. The AACA  Lindsay Swap Meet is going to move its date to the end of May 22 to 25 after the long weekend. This way they are hoping for better weather and some of the Barrie venders moving into Lindsay. Do not worry they will screen the Barrie venders to try and weed out the yard sale stuff.

That should fill any empty vending spots and make it the best all automotive swap meet in Ontario.

FINALLY!!!!!! what a great decision. This "PIZZING" contest between Stirling & Lindsay might "finally" be over??? I'd heard that Lindsay tried moving their date ahead a year or so ago, & Stirling "matched" it??? I would like to be able to attend both BUT not on the same wknd.

Stirling did that I believe last year matching Lindsay's time change Pete. But this time change has nothing to do with Stirling but a good move for more automotive venders and better weather. I know they will not increase the size of the field as it has been. They are only going to fill all the vending spots that is on the old layout. To go bigger means manpower and the club only has so many members to draw from. Will be a great weekend for old car people.

I realize the move is for other reason's than Stirling, one ? though, how do you screen vendors who "say" they have only automotive ,then show up with the "socks / underwear/ jewellery/ & yard sale crap" ?????? Have been going to Lindsay ever since it started vending with friends, & yes the weather has sucked, caught Phymonia there 3 years ago, stayed home the next year because of rain & cold, last year didn't sell one part, lots of interest, bargain basement prices to sell it, & lots of "let me think about it" Think the economy might be affecting buyers wallets????

The economy and the aging of those interest in old cars seems to be a problem. People don't seem as interested in truging around a damp/cold/hot/dusty field to find old rusty parts when they can go on line and find them or get repops delivered to there door. I have seen the same venders draging the same crap to events for years . The younger ones seem to look at a fleamarket as a day out not a source of parts anymore. Those selling parts for racing, tuners, lifted trucks ,skidoos seem ok the ones selling Model A windshield posts probably not so much. Vending has changed as its hard to compete with the internet,I have boxes of old hotrod magizines to prove that. Maybe nicer weather will help guys sell there treasures or maybe just go for the fun of it . Ed

Now it will be the same weekend as the Rockton Swap Meet and Car Show [ used to be Waterdown] which caters to the old car guys. Not good when two good swaps are the same weekend.

with the internet you not only can shop your parts from home but sell them from the comfort of your own couch - 365 days a year

better than making yourself sick in the cold & rain selling not much

though things sell REALLY slowly I've found
so joining similar interest forums gives you access to free advertising of your bits & pieces

better to have an free add posted for a year or two then pay to stand in the rain for a day

using "local" forums like this one can save you a lot on shipping and helps you get to know lots more peeps with the same interest - just like we're all doing right here right now

and considering how slowly stuff sells you really don't want to be paying kijiji or e bay to sell your stuff as you might well have months where nothing sells - hell I've got an add here that's a couple of years old now and I still have some of the parts I listed

God gave everything and everyone in his creation the ability to evolve with the changes of time (lol yeah I did say that)
so use your god given ability and get wit da times, stand up straight and pick up your stick
and get it done

oh and don't be thinking I don't sympathize with the things are changing line of thought because I surely do

I simply accept there's nothin' I can do about it

Some of us still like to get off our ass and go for a walk through a swap meet.
There are things there to be found that you will never see on the internet.

I have camped in snow at Carlisle and walked through mud in hip waders at Sterling and Lindsay. We don't live in Lotus land like you and since flea markets are traditionally at the beginning or end of the season, it can be discouraging. But, you are right about walking the market. It's not getting off our asses, but actually being able to touch and assess what we are buying. As DJD said, the internet has its' place. It is there all year round and the thing you find may be 2000 miles away, but you found it. On another note, I just checked past postings and we have had this exact conversation for the past many years. Crying dolls and socks or whatever, let's just enjoy the fact that we can attend two flea markets on two separate weekends and just walk past the under wear.

Hope this makes sense.
Warren

I have to agree about the ease of the internet but disagree with the nothing you can do. As with most things in life and swapmeets what you can do is participate. If you enjoy something, than the way to protect it is to participate. Enterance fees keep things going and who knows you just might find that thing you have been looking for all these years. Ed

Smokin Joe... There are two main Rockton Swap meets one in May and one in Sept. which are usually very good. In addition several smaller ones are held there. I love swap meets and the hands on experience. I have bought off the internet and never been completely satisfied with what I received.

Only 6 months away they can not change the date now with all the advertising vender payments and contracts would have to stay the same this year. I should have mentioned that thanks Pete.

So it's a potential mud fest again this year ? 2017 was my first swap meet and it turned out to be another big part of the hot rod learning experience for me. My friend and I didn't take gloves or boots to Lindsay and I remember standing in the sleet and looking down one aisle. We turned to one another after looking down the slope and said in unison, "I aint going down that row." My point is, as a newbie, I didn't realize the upside is the same regardless of the weather. I still get to meet a lot of very nice people. The bonus is that in weather like that, I might get a better deal on some parts if the majority of people look down a muddy aisle and come to the same conclusion. Or the part I am looking for may have already been scooped if it had been a good weather day. So much to learn. Yes the net is great. Indispensable. But the sights and sounds and experience of a swap meet is unique and my first 'mud fest', the experience I swore I would never repeat, is now a sort of fond memory. I still hate the cold and wet but while I did get some of the parts I needed, I might have found all I needed had I gone "down that row." Another lesson learned. Besides, after 32 years of working outside I should have known May better. A slow learner but I learn. I should add that I attended the Stirling swap meet for the first time in 2018 and got a few good items in lovely weather but less items than I got in the mud and the rain in Lindsay.

I'm personally a little bit sad I've missed the peak of this hobby. But it's not gone yet, it's just changing.

I'm just starting to experience the swap meets and I keep hearing how they've going downhill and that sucks. The days of clubs/clubhouses for the most part are gone and that sucks too. But lots of the guys are still out there. If you're eager and willing to listen and learn many of them are willing to pass on the torch. Maybe the way in which you find parts has changed. Maybe it's easier for me to get parts I'm looking for, I have youtube videos to show me how to rebuild things. The swap meets feel like a bit of a treasurement hunt, it's more like getting lucky if I find something I need, I don't go to them counting on finding what I need. But the one thing that can't be replaced is people. They're still out there and I'm very lucky to be surrounded by many of them wiling to teach me.

My biggest mentor I have and now a close friend I met at Stirling.
So what I got from my first time at at swap meet was not parts and you can't put a price on it.

The one criticism I do have about swap meets though - as a younger guy who doesn't know what he's doing - there can be a lot of 'impatience' from the vendors when you start asking dumb questions. If you're an experienced vendor/hotrodder, when you see a younger guy at a swap meet who's clearly inexperienced why not take some time to talk to them or try to help them. It can be intimidating or discouraging when you're trying learning and guys just shrug you off like you're an annoyance to them. Pass the torch.

Good points Nick. Seems that the grumpy guys are the veterans that could possibly be upset over the many changes in the flea market world as they remember it too.
It wasn’t that many years ago so it seems, you had to rely on these folks to get your goods and much like Simpson Sears, are almost a thing of the past too . Heck , for a lot of us , this was also our only means of some sort of vacation!
