I can't help but laugh at the thought as to how much the meaning of "late model" can vary
BUT.. somehow IF it's original origins are in the late 50's or early 60's
-it's PROBABLY not so much late model these days as it is antique ...sorry to say ..
I'd want the 29 though ..if it weren't a roadster as a square cab '28/9 truck is something I have ALWAYS wanted ..with a 300 hp turbo 4 banger & a 5 speed trans and modern rod suspension it would still be a nice balanced decent driving ride I think
something that starts and goes for a 2-3 thousand mile vacation trip reliably at any time would be

I just thought of a "legitimate" reason for fiberglass reproduction hot rod bodies..
nobody ever thought of building specifically a "winter rod" .. oh maybe a "cold rod" until now .. EH?
dad did tell the story of a morning snowfall in T-O when the only thing going were the street cars and the old farts that still had a model T - which is the original family sport utility vehicle ain't it
Funny you should say that, my wife always wanted to build a motor so I suggested she build the '69 small block in our Falcon.
One evening while we were in Hamilton sitting on Main at a light a '78 Firebird pulled up alongside. The passenger made a remark about a ****-box girls car. My wife was driving as I'd had a couple.
She popped it in 2nd and loaded the torque converter.
He wouldn't even look at us after she blew his doors off 3 lights in a row.

And funny you should say that because after we dropped the motor in the Falcon we drove it to Hamilton Rad where I had previously ordered up a 4 core unit. Installed it in the parking lot, drove home and installed a shroud I re-purposed from a '66 Valiant.
Next morning we hooked up a hard-top trailer and headed out. Did the first oil change in Wawa. She towed that trailer all the way to the West Coast, rode the ferry to the Island and back and then back home.
Never missed a beat. Only time it's had a wrench put on it since was to do the tri-annual timing chain/gear change and to replace the high-rise with a dual-plane.
That trip was 35 years ago and she's still humming along.
Very cool, I was running a 289 4V in our 67 Fastback and I was impressed with the performance so you are preaching to the choir there. You raised a bit of a sore point though. Is everyone having issues with timing chains lately? I went through 2 in 10k on the 289, had to re-do a customers 351 Cleveland due to 7 degree slop and the big dollar Cloyes I put on my 440 lasted 5 years. When I called Cloyes they said the full roller was a race only unit and should not be used on the street. I use high zinc oil, with and without slingers and only one application had a HV pump. Thought it was just my luck????
I'm not certain but I wonder if the lumpy cam in ours causes the stretch. I also had one crank gear split right along the keyway. I generally use TRW pieces but wanted to try Cloyes....now I'm not so sure.

I think Cloyes makes a quality product just stay away from the "race" line. Apparently, they are not made to handle constant RPM changes. They claim it would have been fine on a circle track with minimal idle and lots of high RPM usage or on the strip. I like to take long roadtrips so I guess it was a bad pick. They list "Race Billet" "Street Billet" and "HDV". I'd probably go HDV next time. I sold the Stang this summer (offer just too good) but I'm off to Nevada tomorrow and may grab another project. The exchange rate is brutal though! Cheers

no closer to 130 hp ...
but get it rolling .. and that turino , with fleet suspension (READ COP CAR) and the large tire 15 inch wheels , and that car .. well I could make Starsky look like a wanna be ...
I have a Dodge in a Dodge,,a Ford in a Ford and my latest project a Chevy in a Ford. I used to kind of hang my head low about it but not anymore. If the diehard Ford people frown on it that's OK. At 70 MPH who is to know Just my opinion TMJ
Actually, I'm not a purist. Mixing sh*t up is what hot-rodding is all about in my humble opinion. I had a '64 Rambler Classic that we muckled a 302 Ford into and it was great fun. I was also giving some serious thought about using a 225 Super Slant Six from a '66 Valiant in the same car.

Nuthin wrong with being different if it makes ya happy. If others appreciate it for what it is - great, if not.......great anyway - unless they think they can out-run you on a bicycle.......
