All,

Not normally one to bore everyone with "home movies", in my retirement I recently took a job in Nevada, bringing back vehicles to Toronto.  Got to help do some work in the desert and although it was not the end of the work, I think I could see it from where we were.  They used to test nukes underground in the valley next to our test site.  Decided to explore some of the lessor seen parts of Route 66 on the way home and had some pics to share.  In a nutshell, the statue of Don Henley is still "Standing on the Corner in Winslow Arizona",  there are still lots of abandoned buildings with old gas pumps and cars left inside and there actually is a Fudge Factory in Uranus Missouri.  If you get bored, just skip for me ok?

My pleasure, this stuff is not everyone's cup of tea but it really floats my boat!

# 1/2 gas station antique store

# 3 the test site (it does not look too scary but being more than 100 miles from any civilization in 100 degree weather is a tad daunting

# 4/5 a really cool bar on Route 66.

# 6/7 the Sun Sand Motel built in the 50's abandoned in 2013

#8 Is my shot from the Grassy Knowll in Dealy Plaza where Kennedy got shot.  The X on the highway is a tad disturbing.  Comments/questions always welcome!

Got some pics from Gas Monkey as well, gotta get them downloaded.

Yes, I thought it was a really cool venue.  The owner was a Veteran and he poured some serious cash into the bar/micro brewery.  He had been there for about five years and didn't seem too optimistic about the future of the place.  It seemed like a common theme on the trip, entire towns are full of abandoned buildings, pawn shops and second hand stores.  I have to wonder what happens to it all, someone has to be paying taxes?  One thing I was once again amazed at how friendly and welcoming everyone was.  Once I mentioned I was looking for old cars, people would bend over backwards to get contact names and numbers of people they knew in the hobby.  I'm not so sure I would be so accommodating to some stranger.  Ashamed to say, I was nervous to leave the hotel in Gallup New Mexico for safety reasons and the biggest danger turned out to be getting free drinks bought for "the Canadians".

I did Route 66 in '66.
Another great drive was route 50 going from east to west.
"The loneliest road in USA"
I had bought my '94 Caprice wagon in Atlanta Georgia and drove it back here to the Island.
2008.

The Gas Monkey Bullitt Mustang was on display at the garage.  The music at the Gas Monkey bar was a little much for me.

Last time I went through this way, I bought myself a little present in Nevada.  Holy Hanna it was a hot drive home!
