I remember selling cigarettes in my dad's store for .30 a pack.

I remember putting gas in my car at 16 for .29 and sometimes .25 a gallon

My dad had a grocery store and I remember a family of 5 living on less then $10 a week.

It was quite a while before cars were 5K. My 69 Z was $3700. and a 66 L79 chevy II was under $3500

My aunt was a movie junky and she took me to all those 'adult accompaniment' movies with damn in them.

I remember .06 stamps. My mother wrote about 5 letters a day.

My mother was horrified when I grew my hair like the Beatles and that wasn't very long at all. Wish I could today.

I remember the ice man coming and ice houses around town. I'm just turning an ice box into a little library.

My mother worked her whole life including a stint in the air force.

How could we cruise without drive-ins. The Logs and Hennings were our favs.

Our first apt in Toronto 2 bedroom,200 bucks a month.

$20 got us 4 bags of groceries from Dominion

first car 25bucks, no cert , ins $25 from the government.

Lots of factories in Mimico/New Toronto area. Making bottles
in the morning .Fired for telling the forman where to go and ended up
down the road working a line a couple hours later.

Was able to work my entire life with a gr9 education .

I really feel for the hopelessnes the kids feel nowadays . We worked to
enable us to buy a house .now that is not even a dream for most of them
Hell in our area now you can't even find an apartment to rent even if you
could afford the $ 1500 rents they are charging. Ed

my father once told me of a friend who would only put 16 , 20 , 25 , maybe 50 cents in at a time

and that friend would have been the founder of "Sully's gym" here in toronto

they owned a cottage , across the lake from us

funny thing is he always drove big azz caddys..

first man to take me for a fast car ride too..big azz red caddy convertible .. about a 65 or 66 I'd guess now

Oh yes. As they say, "Been there, done that".
Lots of nice cars were built in Hamilton and down on the Beach Strip.
Drag racing at Cayuga when it was still part of an old air strip on a dairy farm.
Was that Mehlenbachers?
Then over to Niagara for more car stuff. Dean Johnson? the owner?
Jerry something the guy that managed Niagara. Of course, Jimmy Oddy and his Austin.
Later on, car shows all over the country.
I have driven all over North America. I75 to Florida. US 10 from LA to Miami. US 50 going west from
the east. I5 Vancouver to LA. Detroit to LA for the SEMA show in Anaheim. When was that?
US40 was just taking over from Route 66 in 1966.
I think SEMA was Speed Equipment Manufacturers Assoc. back then.
Almost too much to remember.
Life is good.
Get out there and put on some miles.
DJ

Dave, have you ever been to the Speedway Museum? I have been there four times and will go back again and again. THE ultimate destination. If anyone has a bucket list and you are a car guy, this has to be on it.

No, I haven't been to that part of the country.
Henry Ford museum, Don Garlits museum, Nascar, etc. Yes.
A couple of WWll airplane museums in California.
I would like to see that Speedway stuff.
Old Bill Smith? with all the different car engines, etc.
I should get off my comfy couch and get moving before I seize up and can't do it anymore.

Wuga is right! Everytime somebody says, "I'm going west", I tell them to make sure you're in Lincoln Nb. before 2:00PM. That's the last tour and it's not enough to really see everything.
The other place you might want to venture to is in Hickory Corners Mi The Gilmore Museum. Check out the website
