I just received a notice from insurance co my policy is coming due. Its been a few years since i last had apraisal done so its time to have another. Looking for recomendation of apprairer in the Fort Erie Niagara area.
Others will disagree I'm sure, but I've had excellent luck with the "online appraisers" (try searching Kijiji). As long as you are dealing with a reputable insurance company like Haggerty, with agreed value, there is no reason to drop the big bucks on an appraisal. If you are using a fly by night insurance company that will try and dispute the claim afterwards, perhaps a different story?
Quite a difference between an appraisal for MOT and one for your insurance company. MOT just wants a signed declaration. The insurance company wants construction and finish details, lots of pictures, possibly a history of the car and justification for the appraised value.
Haggerty accepts the online appraisal with pictures, since its agreed value, disputes are settled before you have to make any claim, unlike a certain guy I used to deal with. More than $40.00 is a complete waste of money these days for appraisal.
I will need to get an appraisal shortly for insurance so I thought I'd follow this up. Contacted the online appraisal to find what they needed www.streetsvilleauto.com/insuranceappraisal . They will come and photograph your car if you are in the Toronto area or you will send them about 16 pictures to their specs. MTO appraisal $40 + HST, insurance appraisal $179 + HST
Your choice of course, but with Hagerty I only needed the MTO valuation for $40.00 (or purchase receipt) plus pics I supplied for agreed value of 30k. Paying someone to tell me what I already know seemed like a waste to me but if it floats your boat, cool!
With Hagerty or any other large outfit, it's a roll of the dice for them.
They sign up 10,000 customers hoping that very few, if any, will ever have a problem.
Sad but true, the whole business is like a Casino! For what its worth the biggest claim I've seen on customers cars over the last few years is not accident or theft. Its fire that takes down the majority of classic cars. Battery chargers, leaky fuel systems, even old appliances left running in the garage, fire is a relentless bastard!
