An idea has been suggested over on Canadian Rodder and I would like to carry it here.Since Canadian Rodder is primarily Western Centric, I felt it should be seen here as well in the primarily Ontario audience. The concept is bulk buying from Summit. We know they have the largest array and inventory of speed and hot rod parts in the world, many of which are not readily accessible in Canada.Their prices are as low as you will ever see and their delivery is usually quicker then ordering through a Canadian supplier.
If you have been ordering from Summit and having it delivered to a US drop point, you have to cross the border (which you cannot do now) , travel generally several hours, use fuel, put up with those border guys going in both directions and pay HST on your purchases when returning to Canada.
Summit offers free shipping to Canada on orders over US$299.00 (CA$395.85) and only charges border charges, HST + brokerage for a total of 18.33% or about CA$20.00 over HST on a US$300.00 order. You have to pay HST anyway and that $20.00 is miniscule compared to paying KINEK, travelling to the US and going through the border hassle.
I have suggested that we do periodic regional orders, maybe setting up a thread on Ontario Rodders where we could test the waters. The central person would order on their credit card and anyone being part of that order would e transfer the money to the person doing the ordering before the order is placed. The complete order would be entered but not completed so we would know if there are any back orders and the exact final cost.
I am not trying to undermine any Canadian suppliers, but if their prices are gouging or they only carry an alternative part which you really didn’t want, then let’s do this and save some money. We know you shop at Summit already.I am in no way affiliated with Summit.
A point of clarification. Would the parts be shipped to the central person? If so then some of the participants would have shipping costs to then receive the part from the central person?
I just ordered 2 "IDIDIT" tilt column's from Summit for both my 64's. Their price was close to $200 less than IDIDIT site?? + their install kits were less & I don't have to "upgrade" to newer strg. wheel, as IDIDIT site said you have to do???
