Selling a car

Just wondering what others think on the subject of negotiations.

The old way was I would set a price that I thought it was worth

and leave enough room for the usual haggle above what I needed

to get out of the deal. Things seem to have changed lately though. I

have recently had to deal with people telling me what they need to do to the car

to be happy with it. I priced the car knowing it wasn't Barrett Jackson quality.

The car runs and drives and I take it to local shows and cruze

events. All I hear is it needs paint, I am going to have to change the interior, Its

a Ventura not a Nova. All that stuff is in the adds. I am only  asking $5000 for a

running driving  decent car. If it had all the upgrades people seem to want it would

probably be worth $12 grand. How the hell do you price a car to accommodate what others

want to do to it? Frustrated old guy asking. Ed

If the buyer wants a different interior, different paint, different drive-line or brakes - or ANYTHING - that's all on them. Like the guys above said " Do you want it or not?"

You also have to consider, how bad you want to sell it

It depends on how bad you want to sell it or get rid of it.
I gave away a very nice '95 Ford Crown Victoria. Clean with good A/C.
No rust.
Just not many buyers out there and I can't be bothered with tire kickers.
Next one on the list to go is the '05 Magnum wagon.

I don't have to sell it,I would like to sell it because I have another fun ride on the road and
another almost ready. Just a case of too much ins for them all . Its all ready licensed and insured
for this year so no hurry but a little project money would be nice. Guess I will have to bite my lip
and put up with the BS for awhile. Thanks for letting me vent. Ed

i am about to go through the same right now ed.  i have a guy coming in from quebec sometime sunday to look at the hemi car and were going to have a chat friday to set the time better.  i know i will be telling him not to make the trip if it isn't the exact amount we discussed.  pretty much the same story bud, lol.  half of me hopes he starts with the horse sh!t early and it's over with, but the other half hopes he has the cash and it's over quick. lol   lets see, it's a crap shoot ed.

the negotiations are over as far as i am concerned ed. i answered any and all questions honestly with numerous pic's sent and this is an inspection before the payment sorta thing and you now have 2 choices, take it or leave it.

LMFAO--the ass kicking thing is the old shag, ed.  one of the biggest hurdles of this getting older sh!t was/is learning not to let your mind write cheque's your body can't cash no more,  lol  and slowing down on the alcohol intake helped. 20/25 years ago i was hercules in my mind but at age 70 plus i think it would be more of his brother showing up, re/dicules.   lmao

This brings me back to selling my gasser chassis . I showed a guy the pics , gave him a written list , gave him my cell my email . two days later sends me a message asking what body comes with the chassis ? We had talked for about an hour or so and the only time " body " was mentioned was when I said there wasnt one .

True story:

When I was working at the dealer (Mills & Hadwin) in Toronto, they had those little paneled offices in the showroom.  I was standing in front of the business managers office one very cold winters day and overheard the business manager trying to "close a deal".  He was sitting across from an older gentleman whos wife was still outside in their car.  He said "why don't you bring your wife in out of the cold so we can both dicker?".  Now that's a bargaining technique!  I had to run back to the shop before I busted out laughing.

Hey Shag we must have had the same guy. Three calls first one ,what is your lowest price(without seeing the car) so I said probably
whatever I have in my hand while you are loading it . Second call starts out ,I used to have one of those , so you know this guy only
wants to travel down memory lane not buy a car. Call number three asks all kinds of questions about the car saying he has seen it and
liked it at various local cruse nights and shows in the area. We loosely agree on a price range and agree to meet today at noon. As you
probably guessed , no show no call. Wonder what will happen with those who want to see it on the weekend. Stay tuned for weekend updates. Ed
