I often need to cut or bend material in a horizontal vice but the traditional style of vice doesn’t work well that way. To bulky and heavy to maneuver I think.
But this vice is perfect. I hadn’t seen a vice like this since high school shop class. And it looks like that is where it came from.
Anyway, I stared at it for a while this morning and then it came to me how to mount it. It will work great and add to safety in my garage because in a vertical vice, I often can’t see the lines drawn on the metal.
With this vice set up horizontally, I can cut down on the material. A lot safer. And it was simple to set it up.
I found an old piece of bed rail and drilled two holes to line up with the holes in the vice. Bolted the vice to the rail and then I just clamp the bed rail in my existing standard vice so the 2nd vice is slightly offset.
So it was not only simple to adapt, it’s portable. Sweet. I hope this idea helps somebody out. Maybe it's common knowledge but the idea was new to me. Happy fabricating everybody !
Thank you so much Iwannagofast. I really enjoy coming up with tool ideas for my build or just making tools. Works nice for my budget too. Thanks again.
