So, a tank of 94 cost just over $130.00 today @ $1.70 per litre.  Is it just me, or is this getting out of control?

You will have to excuse me for not holding my breath, I have not heard any of the party leaders proposing a reduction in revenues or even making do with what they are already getting.

yeah I hear you on that
but considering the brainwashed think carbon taxes will save the planet , right now , saying your going to do something that would "reduce that effort" would probably be a mistake

really what's likely the , THE one common cause to our current inflation rate..
the fuel cost getting stuff to the store for one..

Out here on the Island our gas price just went down to 149.9
It is usually higher than Ontario.

it would help if the oil industry raised the price to 5 bucks a liter and said re-elect that fool and that's where the price will stay..

The main depot where I pick up fuel for delivery was out of regular this weekend and last. I heard the same for one depot in Toronto. Supply and demand laws apply everywhere.

It's already in use. Insurance companies install trackers on the pretense that your driving habits will lower your insurance premiums. On the other hand, commercial vehicles pay basically a road use tax by being registered where they can buy fuel. Nothing wrong with user pays. I like smart meters, it keeps people like meter readers out of my property.

Is there such a thing as a meter reader anymore?
Did they all get laid off? Or did we pay them a severance of some sort?
Should our electric bill go down because they are not working?
What vehicle did they use to make their rounds?
Another cost saving that we didn't get....
yada yada...

if you're buying a house there's something you wanna check for if it's a mid '60's or older home..

look for a fuse or circuit breaker ..for the water heater

my heater crapped out .. I called the repair guy from the heater rental outfit .. he came , said the heater checks out ok, where's the fuse or breaker..

we looked

there wasn't one

then the guy told me ..they used to be "flat rate" so it doesn't run through the hydro meter..

but you'll have to call hydro .. to come , pull the meter out of it's socket and change the fuse for you 'cause the fuse is outside in the meter box..

they came .. they changed the fuse .. yanked it out with a set of 3-4 foot long insolated tongs.. the put the new fuse in and left without changing anything else..

was nice to have free hot water ...,.

I don't know about BC, but I am in Alberta right now and there is something different about electric billing. In Ontario, there are three rates, discounted on weekends and between 7PM and 7AM, high at breakfast and supper and normal during the day. Informed people do heavy use during the discounted period. In Alberta there is only one rate all the time. Without smart meters, variable billing couldn't happen. As for the fused heater, I like user pays. And Dave, as for meter readers, they have been attritioned off. Some are still needed to drive the street to read the remote water and gas senders. The power meters all reports to a local central computer.

yep user pays works well

especially if user pays to much .. for to long

my parents had out house built back in 66-67, dad paid the bills every month etc etc..
then he learned how the water billing worked
see 2/3's the cost is for grey water return / sewage... we had a septic tank .. no hook up to the sewer.. as there was none in the street out front..
so
credit..
for years and years..

for new fresh water.. but at the old already pre paid price..

I think it was 10 - 12 years before we got a water bill for anything above ZERO..

sigh.. I miss that house..

ya know what I don't like ?

american owned wind turbines here in ontario.. ones that we find out about when one falls down..
the same ones connected to OUR hydro grid .. generating hydro we don't need but pay...pay the americans to take off our hands..

???????????????????????????

 X2-lol

it is something like my bike insurance for the last 4 or 5 years.  i figure it is about .65 to .75 cents a mile for the riding i do anymore, but i still pay it every year. that one is cheap compared to insurance on the old cars per mile for 3 cars vs total mileage.  that would be well over a buck per mile vs total mileage on 3.

it's hard to put a price on smiles and grins especially with a hobby guys.

what were they saying for a reason mike, just curious. years ago when i hauled fuels it happened once or twice but they said the line was down for repairs.  i am guessing today it would be on the supply end of it.

The station I use has been out of regular twice in the last month . Huge crowd getting premium
at the price of regular both times. Wonder if the delivery was delayed or was the previous light for some reason.
You would think they would have this delivery schedule down pat. Ed

My bet is, with the election complete, $1.35 is gonna seem like a good deal in a few months.  Hope I'm wrong, I've mentioned before, I like to think I'm a die hard car guy but at $140 for a tank of premium I'm looking for the exit!

I have a work around..

back in '88 I bought a plymouth turismo.. same thing as an 80's charger ..basically a 2 door dodge omni..

it got 42 mpg (imperial) but the motor ..and not much else died really early

soo
it got converted to a 2.2 turbo efi motor and every piece found in a shelby charger was added

I threw a mopar performance computer and camshaft at it bumping the boost from 7/8 pounds to 11-12 pounds

with the 3:05 final drive ratio carb car trans still in it I got 46 mpg..average

-prob about 200-210 hp ..stock early turbo 2.2 was 146 hp

average means while beating the XXXX outta it daily

if I'd driven it like a granny it would have got well over fifty mpg easily..

yeah ..not kidding

and lucky for me I found & bought THIS a few years ago..

though the mileage is going to likely be much lower as this one's going to make 400 odd horsepower with the doo dads I've collected ..(heh heh)

I had a couple of Shelby Daytonas, they were fun but Turbo cars all have the same issue.  The physics of turbocharging demands premium fuel  ($1.75 litre) to support the extra performance.  I worked at Mills & Hadwin when these were new and saw it time and again.  The Turbo II is tuned so knife edge that even installing the wrong muffler will cause it to run lean and melt pistons.  At wide open throttle, it ignores the O2 sensor and just runs full fuel pump pressure with full injector pulse width.  Wrong backpressure or a small vacuum leak (usually from the injector seals) was lethal.  I replaced mine with an SRT 4 Neon, 225 HP with an LSD and no mufflers right from the factory.  It was terrible as a daily driver in the winter though!

i am in agreement on the 1.35 will seem cheap before too long. the way this is going with electric car's coming on hard they still need the road tax money from gas sales to maintain the roads. the hst stuff they will still get on the power bills but there is quite a bit of road tax wrapped up in that 1.35. i would think plates will take a hike also for the provinces chunk of the pot.

our lives are about to see a quick change before too long from how most of us were raised in this car hobby.  i don't know if i am looking for the exit just yet but i will be going down to 2 cars from 4 and 1 bike from 2 for a start.  as long as i have my license i will likely have my 50 truck as i inherited it but i can see no bike before long as there are just too many idiot a-holes out there any more and i find you have to pay to much attention driving not just for your protection let alone quessing which is the biggest idiot beside me. it's not as big of a grin anymore is all.

trenton has always been the cheaper place around this area for a long time now. i am thinking it goes back to when the guys in the military didn't actually make very good wages for a long time.  they started getting much better maybe 10-15 years ago now.

not bashing ..just stating fact .. new generosities require new way to pay for them

not until we become wise enough to create a party whose sole purpose is to become elected and change the system to a PARTY FREE one well we see change

electing a representative of a party isn't democracy.. it's control by the elite

and we wonder why these people don't represent "us" but instead every OTHER interest under the sun

the party system only creates division .. it's intended to
it creates the illusion of we / they ,..win / lose..

while nothing actually changes...

reading the comments in the comment sections of the paper I have to laugh..
people thinking they won .. or the other's lost .. REALLY?

'cause .. it seems no matter who "wins"...we all lose ..every time

that wouldn't be so if WE had representation..rather than organized groups with their own agenda

like being in school
and the only candidates for student council come from either the football team or the rowing club..
yeah good luck to you if you're in the chess club or A/V club..

I’m with Ed and Poncho. This place is a wealth of knowledge and skills that amateurs like me really need. I get all the politics and other nonsense that goes with it every time I open a newspaper or turn on the TV. Let’s stick with cars and leave the drama somewhere else. Enough already.

I believe it is a driver problem . E.U. drivers are evidently not allowed
to operate in England due to Brexit agreements, as I understand it they
need British drivers to operate the trucks and evidently there aren't enough of them. Ed
