summer oil for a 66 289 cu. in.

I may have asked this before (I'll write the answer down this time) but what oil is best for summer driving?

I researched and discovered that Rotella T & Delvac 1300 have zinc in them and that's good for older engines (I think).

Does it matter if they sit in the cold all winter ? I'm changing the oil in Spring anyway.

At this point I think I'll switch from Castrol 10w30 or 40 to 15/40 Rotella T unless guidance here advises me not to.

Been running the Rotella 15 / 40 for yrs in my 500 Caddy powered 40 Ford p/u with after market goodies. It was the only oil that would hold up it's viscosity in the 30 + summer heat!

X2 for Rotella 15-40.  I used to run Royal Purple but I don't think you get any value running high end synthetics in carbureted cars.  With Rotella you get the zinc protection and can afford to change it regularly.  If i were running some crazy lift cam with silly strong valve spings I may go with Brad Pen or Royal Purple but for a warmed over street engine I think Rotella is the ticket.

I put the Rotella T6 in everything, it also has the JASO MA/MA2 ratting so it is good for wet clutch motorcycles.
I found Walmart is the cheapest place to buy it.

Isn't the T6 a synthetic oil? I've always thought synthetic wasn't good for older engines. Now I'm confused more than I was.

I have a couple of bottles of Lucas zinc additive if anyone is close to Markham, I'm giving them away.

So pugsy, you are giving them away because you also use Rotella T and don't need them ?

I just got off the phone with my friend Bill , a mechanic, who assures me that Rotella T is not synthetic. And he uses it in his own vintage vehicles.

Nope, I use synthetic in my newer engine, roller cam. Don't need no zinc around here. Sold off the 327.

I was using Rotella when my cam lobes wiped out. No more hydraulic cams for me.

So now I wonder if there are different Rotella T oils because that one says it is a diesel oil ? Boy, things I once thought were so simple. Thank you Toomuchjunk and 123pugsy. I will really have to look at what is on the shelves next time I am at the store to sort this out.

You don't need Zinc additive except to break in a new cam/lifters. If you want the best Zink based oil, just use Brad Penn.
