Anybody else having trouble getting parts?  I have a bunch of weatherstrips, ordered from 2 different places and both are backorder.  One shows a May release date.  Also ordered some clutches for a GM posi, took 8 weeks to arrive.  Not gonna be driving much in the near term anyway but May seems kinda nasty!  Summit is normally pretty good.

I ordered an axle from Speedway back in July.... it finally arrived 2 weeks ago.
The answer they gave me made sense... The shipment was on a boat trapped in the ocean waiting to dock in California... apparently the shipping docks are short staffed... the truckers are not picking up the cargo... on and on... that's also why the prices have gone up for pretty much everything...

At one point in the fall there was over 140 boats waiting off the coast of California... each boat holds over 1000 containers.... some up to  21000.... I read that at least one boat returned to China to change the crew because of an outbreak...
I'm sure there had to be a certain hold time before the items past through every checkpoint...
Also there was or still is a shortage of sea bins... I don't know exactly why... maybe manufacturing shortages, containers being used and not returned????

All of these factors are why we're waiting , I'm sure.

ran into a buddy coming out of the g-m dealer about a month ago in the parking lot. he has been driving new caddies for many years and he was pissed. this guy wouldn't say sh!t if his mouth was full of it and when we took our masks down he unloaded cursing like an old truck driver about them having his car for 9 weeks waiting for a rear end part and no idea when he might get it. sure didn't make me make feel comfy taking mine in for an electrical problem. the remote start and fuel gauge weren't working and i told them to diagnose it and source the parts if needed before they take it apart, i can live with it but i don't want to be without it and there is lots of warranty left on it.
ordered a new international truck for work in mid march and got it at the end of september and when i mentioned i am going to need another one before long they told me the order desk was closed for now.

Insurance companies are writing off almost new vehicles with very minor damage to them. The problem is the new replacement parts aren't available to fix them. The dealerships can get some people vehicles if they want to. It's all about how much money they're going to make.

I guess I just got spoiled over the years ordering stuff as I needed it.  Seems like every time I order in advance, the part is either wrong or defective when I get around to installing it and they won't warranty it.  I recently took a job as service manager and we can't get batteries or headlights for Honda/Toyotas due to backorders.  Can't imagine how frustrating it is for someone to have to cough up $400 for an AGM battery for a Civic because thats all that is left in stock!

I work in a body shop and perhaps this is not always the case.... We have a 2021 Hyundai Kona  with 3000 km on it that was hit so hard  the back tail light on the passenger side was basically behind the driver seat... the owner does not want his "New" car back but the Insurance company did not write it off now the guy has no choice to own a brand new car that has now been  smashed .... (fully repaired) but try to sell it later..... as soon as the VIN has been run for parts.... there is a record for life......

I've also seen where they do get sent to auction as branded wrecks for minor damage but usually the older higher end vehicles.... My guess it depends on the adjuster and if they want to deal with the claim or just have it go away....

As far as covid related backordered parts? we've been pretty lucky for the most part , but yes definately... we wait on parts and supplies all the time....

There is a whole other world going on with that stuff!  I bought myself one of the Neon SRT4 cars as a present.  Was coming home from work on the North side of the metro zoo and a young girl missed the curve, hit me head on and sent me into the camel cage.  The front frame rails were bent to the right about an inch but the bags did not deploy.  I took the write off, and tracked the VIN.  It went to auction, a used car dealer in Mississauga bought it, re aligned the fenders and hood and had it up for sale certified 2 weeks later.  I could still see the bulges in the rails so it was not pulled on a frame aligner.  I called every agency I could and everyone agreed, yes, that happens.

In the Hot Tub world.. I have been getting regular shipments of new spas from overseas and really only had one container delayed due to the flooding out West. On the service side getting new parts has been tricky. If you were looking for a spa pack for a 5+ year old spa and needed a replacement you might be waiting awhile. A lot of the parts MFG's are only making their latest development of parts and selling most of it to spa MFG's to keep them going due to such high demand. It's hit or miss. I had a pretty good supply of used parts stripped from dump tubs but that supply is running out and with fuel prices hitting $1.60+ costs are going way up and sadly my service rates are going to increase in the spring. First increase in 20 years.

We ordered a kitchen (cabinets etc.) from Ikea in Nov for the cottage. Two weeks ago we received the first shipment 2 packages, a cabinet and toe kicks. Last week we received a shipment of about 30 packages, an assortment of doors, drawers, and hardware. No more cabinets. Apparently the cabinets are backordered. As it stands we can't get to the cottage yet due to snow in the hill, butI wonder when we will get them. So it's not just car parts that are in short supply, it's pretty much everything.
