In my ever present effort to learn about this field of endeavour, I often wonder about what certain things on cars are. One thing I wonder about is a flat piece of metal mounted across the front of a racing car, usually a few inches wide sitting parallel with and very close to the road surface. It always has braces that look like turnbuckles to hold it in place. It might be a sort of air foil but I don't see how it would make much difference to performance if it is. Just curious.
