Hey all , is it just me or have you noticed the last few years , headlights are so bright , on coming traffic just freakin blinds you ? I see all these ford and chev trucks with like dual headlights , and all 4 are on . Isnt there sposed to be rules on bright headlights can be ?  I know as humans evolve and were gettin smarter with each new generation , but really how bright do your headlights need to be . I,ve even noticed on trips to toronto , drivers using their high beams on city streets , subdivisions etc with speed limits at 40 to 60 k,s

Before this thread gets cold i gotta say something.
Yes there are rules on how bright head lights can be, what it is i don't know but there is a rule. If they are coming at you with the high-beams on there is a law for that also but curtesy and common sense went out the window some years ago i'm afraid.
What could be a big factor also is the availability of after market bulbs that are way beyond the legal brightness but if you go on amazon looking for bulbs you will likely get a surprise. I bought a led bulb for my bike a couple of years ago and it took quite awhile adjusting it to bring it into acceptable levels so it wouldn't bother un-coming traffic but i wouldn't be with out it now. something that might help is making headlight alignment part of a safety check.
I know i have close to a million and a half miles on me and these new led lighting systems have made a huge change in driving at night for the better. my first time with the led was maybe 10 years ago in a escalade and it opened my eyes to what i was missing. I was at the point that i was planning my driving habits around the less night driving the better, before that. Along the line with that car it blew a bulb and truthfully i didn't really know it was out till someone told me. The local dealer was 500 and change for the bulb with 300 for the labor to replace it but i got it done for 400.00 at a local shop with a bulb from napa. 3-4 years later i bought a navigator for a change up and the lighting on it was crap and when i went to napa about up-grading the bulbs he told me the ones in it were the highest i could get without being illegal, they weren't led. Nice car but no power for towing and the lighting sucked compared to the escalade. The one i have had now for 4 years is another escalade and i wouldn't buy another car that didn't have the same system in it, it is a game changer for me and night driving and i don't get people blinking at me to dim mine. The odd time i have to blink at other cars coming at me with high beams on and when i flash back in high beams they usually aren't long dimming theirs, lol.
The long and the short of this is these new headlight systems have made a huge difference in night driving for me, at my age. this getting old **** sucks. lol

Headlight aim has been part of an inspection for a Safety Standards Certificate for ever. Mind you, it’s also the most ignored part of the inspection process from my experience. The old Hoppy mechanical aimers are useless on today’s vehicles and optical aimers are the only other practical option now.
