The Trouble with being a Hot Rodder

Ok so some of us are gettin a lil older and plans start to change . Once we get this place sold off , if we can get close to what we want . Its gonna be time to downsize , buy a place down east with a decent garage / shop completely get out of tfsa rrsp mutual funds and anything else the govt can control or just out and out take from us

I figure ok , I,ll sell off The Little Gremlin and The Gasser project . Then my Trini Chick says , maybe we could sell off her 87 trans am too ??? And replace her Ford edge daily with a newer model edge w more options , nice set of wheels tires and nice tint job and she would be happy with that . Maybe a 2020 kinda thing . In ten years she,ll be 77 and we,ll probably be driving electrics by then

Then today I was thinking hmmmm ??? maybe I could sell off the 50 also . get rid of all 4 hot rods ??? I would still need a bigger awd suv or a 4x4 truck for fishing hunting trips . I more a fan of the 55-56 chev trucks anyways , just the 50 was a kickin deal . Then when / if we get down east and downsized I always wanted to build another baha bug . But I want heat for winter driving and and 4 wheel drive and auto transmission so we can both drive it and I seen a bunch of utube vids . They take a vw body and stretch a suzuki samurai frame 14 inches and put the bug body on it . That would give me 4x4 , good ground clearance , good heat and be able to drive year round .

And thats the problem with hot rodding , before you even sell off all the cr ap you have now , your all ready making plans for the next one(s) .

Dam - selling? Even the thought hurts lol
Now - getting away from it all does sound good too - but my family and friends live here in this area- I would not survive a week without them all, if I were transferred to somewhere else - no matter the enticement.

Hello 77. I'm guessing you have been a car enthusiast a long time because you only identify half the problem. The routine part you forgot about.
You point out that you are already making plans for buying more toys before you have sold off the ones you have.
What you fail to mention is that you are probably making those plans at 3 in the morning and you can't sleep.
I've been awake since 3 thinking about my carbs, my shifter and my suspension and the worst part is, 3 is sleeping in for me since I began my build.

The problem is that this hotrodding thing, and/or any kind of automotive enthusiast in general, is a disease for which there is no cure - no one walks totally away for very long - before the, I need this or that, oozes its way back into the back, or front of your mind.

There is no trouble being a hot rodder. L.O.L. i've been one over 65 years [ kustoms, hot rods , drag racing ] and while there has been frustration ; not one single regret.

about 50 years into it now starting with field cars and bikes on the farm. no real regrets and the highs far out out weigh the lows. i knew i was inflicted many years ago just after my wife passed when i got back into it building a 78 anniversary vette and the u.p.s. driver was at my place so often we became personal friends. lmao i consider that one a lesson learned as i wouldn't look at another vet unless it was for the power train in it.

So were getting ready to go east and down size and I STILL have the gremlin the gasser and the 50 LOL
And I been getting messages from guys who helped build or were friends w the guys that built the gremlin , and still no buyers LOL. AND you know as soon as we get down there some clown will ask if he can come see it . My reply sure thing , drive to this address where I used to live in onterrible . Then drive 15 hours east to see it in its new home province .

The Little Gremlin sold
The 50 sold
all the spares , Ford 9 inches , hot rod parts all sold . Man some dude went nuts over two old time cowl mounted spot lights I had . The kind that you can operate from inside the cab . Gave me 50 bucks each , drove an hour an half to get them
just the gasser / hot rod chassis left
and unfortunately I gotta go back to ontario and haul it all the way to New brunswick
But ... there seems to be a thriving hot rod / vintage car scene out here , so maybe it might sell out here ??
And I did see a nice baja bug project for a really good price about an hour from me

Good stuff all around. Selling off cars/parts, the car guys scene and I bet the scenery around the new house is great also.
