I was asked recently if I would sell an item for $200 and agreed to. I sent photos of the item and then sent photos of it packaged and then sealed ready to ship. I got a quote from UPS for shipping but not a written quote. UPS won't provide one until I actually ship because I was told shipping costs change so rapidly that that is no longer policy. I informed the buyer ( a member of the HAMB ) of the shipping cost and he said he would send payment AFTER proof of delivery. What would members advise ?
This sounds suspicious and unreasonable to me. Should I mention the handle of the HAMB member here ? Thank you
Over on the HAMB, this posting has received 58 responses and the overwhelming consensus is payment first. But on the other hand as 69SS545 said, you are in another country and maybe they don't trust the seller. I have bought many big dollar items on the HAMB and have always sent the payment first and have always received the item, many times better then expected. Had worse luck with retail vendors.

That's why I only accept cash, in person deals when I sell anything and when buying things online I pay with paypal so everything is insured and my bank account and credit cards are secure...
If you sell items online without some kind of insurance? Then it's on you if you get taken....

Not that it makes a difference but the buyer doesn't know I am in Canada. He never asked. And when I asked for his address to get a shipping cost, he didn't give his street or house number which made me suspicious early on.

I think in the USA shipping cost is to anywhere in that ZIP CODE . Did he give you a ZIP CODE number ?
No, the deal fell through. This happened to me once before on the HAMB for the same item and both times to lower California so I suspect it was the same guy but months apart and a different area of lower California. No worries. I learned from it.
