Hey y'all. We're replacing the front end ( stock) on the Comet - then the Falcon. We ordered a pot full of stuff from across the river and everything was alright except the tie-rod ends. The ones they stock/sent look like they belong on an import, much too small. We'll gladly accept any suggestions from you folk as to where to purchase the right pieces. Places like Carpenters, etc?
Thanks Fella's. I should have mentioned, the parts ordered were from Rock Auto -thanks though Seeker. Poncho, thanks for the pics, the other problem I'm running into is the Falcon is a mid-year car plus the tie rod ends for a 6 cyl are different from the 8. The car was originally a 6 and was changed to an 8 prior to my buying it. It has 5 bolt hubs front and back which would make me believe it's an 8 cyl front end......probably the best way would be to compare the originals to NAPA parts?
randy you might want to check this out bud. i read it and just wasn't sure, but maybe sorta thing. - -https://www.macsautoparts.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?cat=65952&eck_fitment_year%5B0%5D=1963&eck_fitment_year%5B1%5D=1964&q=tie+rod+63+falcon
i had a 65 caliente some years ago and they were glad to help answer any questions for ford parts.
my guess would be a difference for the power steering clearance, maybe.

Hi 58Chev, I've looked at some pieces sold through places like Carpenters that were MOOG. I still need to be sure they are the correct pieces before I order because they're 3 or 4 times the price for some reason. Thanks for the help.

Hi Rick, hows that trike? Mac's is another source I'm looking into. When they had the store across the river ( N.Y.) I made a couple trips for different items, headlight switches, etc but as of yet haven't spoken with them about suspension and steering pieces. I've heard they're pretty good though. Thanks Bud.
It looks like the store is still there outside Lockport so I'm gonna need to take a drive with some of the old pieces.

If buying Moog parts, why would a guy go to a place like Carpenters when any jobber can order them?
Hi 123Pugsley, well, because that's where they happened to first get my attention while I was searching. I was really surprised at first but as i found the same parts in other searches - at similar prices I figured they must simply be a better made part. I used to forge front end parts at TRW and MOOG was a stiff Competitor at that time. I didn't mean to sound like I was slamming the part/price, I was quite surprised at the price differential though. That's all, carry on.
Seems the left outer may be different if power steering or not

yeah, i am with you poncho, my guess would be the power steering and a v-8. the 5 bolt wheels would be v-8 back then like the acadians and chey 11. they were 4 bolt till they put v-8's in them.

You're both correct, if equiped with power steering there are differences. Ours are still arn-strong steering. I'm thinking I'll take some pieces to Mac's and see what happens. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help. With a site like this it's only a matter of time before you meet up with someone else dealing with the same or similar issues.
