My brother in law ordered a new Colorado. I'd mentioned a year or so ago if he ever wanted to sell his current truck to let me know. He let me know. It has 106,000 klm. Needs a rear bumper and some love around the box eyebrows but aside from that she's alright. He'd backed into something so yesterday I tugged the bumper away from the rear 1/4 ( after I 'd taken these pics) , put a bottle jack between the inner 1/4 and the hitch mount and eased the lower 1/4 over 3/8" so the tailgate didn't snag it - see the curl on the lower R corner of the tailgate?.....I massaged that back into place as well.  Leather, heated, I put the delete chip on so it doesn't drop to 4 cyl on the highway. I gave my previous truck ( an 08) to our oldest because his ( also an 08) has over 400,000. It's still going great but as we all know, someday.........

Hi Rick, Apparently these things drop 4 cyl at highway speed to conserve fuel. Unfortunately the method GM used pulls oil pressure from the one lifter bank and by-passes it to the crank case - in simple terms. Somehow this increases oil consumption which - if not properly monitored can lead to engine failure. The incresed fuel conservation isn't worth the risk in my opinion. Perhaps there are other folks out there better schooled in this issue than I who could weigh in?

Thanks Randy. I wasn't aware of this. I have a 2011 crew cab 4x4 with that 4 cyl.-8 cyl.  5.3  .It has roughly 61, or 62,000 KM on it. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks or the schooling.

No problem Bud. I'm just going on advice from one of my boys. They both have the same trucks. Is anyone here aware of this issue?

My 2018 and 2019 both do the same thing. But I have never heard of this issue. The system works good IMHO. You will notice it switching if you think real hard about it but most of the time you will never notice it.

Thanks Marten, perhaps most of us on this site check our fluids more often then some others?

LOL, yes I am very aware of it.  It started out as a slight lifter tic which rapidly became a down cyl shaking like hell. 2017 6.2 lt escalade with 72000k on it under factory warranty and like a lot of things today that is when I discovered how widespread this problem is, it very widespread but mostly with the 6.2 motor. Your young lad who works at the dealer will know about this one Randy i am quite sure.  Anyway, off to the local dealer and it was a gong show partially due to covid parts shortages, 4 weeks to get head gaskets but even worse they only replace the one lifter on the one bank that failed under the warranty. There are 2 middle cylinders on one bank that shut down and 2 end cylinders on the other side that go down when it is in the 4 cylinder mode to even out the balance of the motor when activated. Flat rate is 10 hours for one side and 11 for the other if they are tearing it down to do the warranty fix for the one lifter on whichever side it is.

That is when the conversation got real heated, lol. I couldn't believe they were only doing the one cyl after tearing it down that far. At the end of the day i paid for an extra 3 hours to take both heads off and replace all 16 lifters both sides and deactivated the system. About a 1100.00 extra touch after waiting 4 weeks for the head gaskets. The bigger problem these have is the 8 speed tranny torque converters shuddering when shifting and their micky mouse fix for that one, replace the tranny fluid with some sort of different fluid.  There is a HUGE class action lawsuit on this problem in the states. Whatever they are using for the new fluid stops the shuddering only to return down the road when the warranty has expired as in my case. Luckily i have extended warranty which fixed it at a reputable shop here in town.

In answer to your ? bud, " Is anyone here aware of this issue?

Yea i know about it and i tossed in the tranny fiasco as a bonus to make me feel better.  lmfao

You're right Shag, Braydon had heard about it but it was Bryan that first did the delete on his truck about 2 years ago. Braydon left the Dealership to go building houses with his father-in-law as we were talking about at your place. He's much happier. It was partly your telling us about the Caddy that made me wonder about the delete for the truck. Sorry it was such a f#ck up with yours. Hows the trike?

Sorry bud i forgot that he had left the dealer to work with the in-laws, oops. Hope he is doing well and having a grin, good kid. I put about 700 mi on the trike and truthfully it felt good on my body but it took awhile to get use to 3 wheels over the 2, surprisingly. I have been riding since 1964-65 and i didn't realize how much body you used to do did it as it just became natural after so many years. After 2-300 mi it got a lot more comfortable as you don't use your body no more, just your arms and shoulders lightly.

Good score with the truck Randy, to be truthful I didn't know how much of a deal this lifter/tranny crap was till it happened.

No troubles Shag, he's really enjoying himself. Fresh air, exercise, a decent job - what more can a guy ask for today?
Body language, that's exactly what I was wondering about. I figured the trike would be kinder to your hip but wondered how you'd adjust. I'm glad it's working out for you.
So is the Caddy back together and running right now?

Yeah it is running now for 3-4 weeks but it still has some issues. The trans has a very light shudder in it when cruising and goes up and done 1 gear on the little hills. I know the tranny shop will look into the problem but it is till a p.i.t.a. lol. I watched them doing mine and the owner who is a bud says there is still a weak spot because the only valve bodies they can get is from gm, all the rest is the best of the aftermarket. That and there is some sort of valve encased in the housing that is iffy. It's got me shaking my head. This is the 3rd one i have had with a navigator for a change before this one. The other 2 caddys were bullit proof compared to this thing and the navigator was real short of power for pulling trailers. I may as well finish unloading my spleen while i am at it, lmao, it was a 750.00 fix for the radio. The screen started cracking and the presets wouldn't work. This problem is not just a caddy thing from what i read about. There are some other models with the same systems and likely bigger models with the 8 speaker bose systems, my guess.
Anyway if nothing else it has been a real quick learning curve that could get expensive when the extended warranty is done a year from now.
What year is the truck you picked up, with a 106k on it it can't be to old. Truthfully you would of thought they might of had it figured out by now since the 4-6-8 motors back in the early 80's. If yours has the same system you probably did the right move shutting it off. When mine was at the dealer for the valves there were 4 or 5 other ones there waiting for parts all with the 6.2 in them. Good luck with the truck bud, it looks clean other than a couple of dings.

So if the extended warranty is up in a year or so I figure the Caddy will be on the auction block before too long? I mean, you've gotten pretty much everything fixed.....but it can happen again, right?
It's funny, Bryan, Braydon and I each have the same truck, 3 out of the 4 are '08's ( mine is 08), 3 out of the 4 are the same colour.....they're all 5.3 4X4.
Sue and I gave Bryan ( oldest son) the one we were driving when we bought this one. Also an '08, it has around 220klm. The body was pretty decent so Bryan took it to a friend and had the dings knocked out, rust repaired and painted, It looks pretty good. It'll be his summer truck. Even his other one still looks good. He's had an issue a few times with the servo for the 4 wheel but he drops it in the driveway, rebuilds it in his shop, re-installs and keeps going. It's good to be handy.
Bryan went ahead and ordered the delete and installed it before I knew what he was up to. He chipped his so he can alter shift points, etc when towing. I'll keep you posted on the trucks behavior. Ride safe Bud.

"but it can happen again, right?"
I can't answer that one bud, hope so, lol The big deal is there is no replacement for the h/p for pulling trailers. I checked into the newer big jeep wrangler but they are even done with the v-8's and I want a v-8 for the bottom ends to handle the trailer towing. Everything newer is a v-6 spun up to make the h/p but I can't see a v-6 taking the torque on the crank, if that makes sense. I have my dually f-350 for towing bigger stuff but the caddy is much more comfortable for boats, bikes, snowmachines etc.

You're right about the torque on the crank, that's certainly something to consider. You might just have to buy lighter toys, lol.
