Hoist installer

I just picked up a used 2 post hoist and looking for someone to install it. Any recommendations?

I'm in Selby now. 30 minutes west of Kingston, just north of Napanee.

Nope, I'm not installing it myself. I know my limitations.

If you can't find an installer, because they all want to sell you a lift, I'm sure we can put together a crew to do it. If you haven't, watch this You Tube video www.youtube.com/watch , check your concrete thickness, find a suitable location and let's do it.

Weld addition length feet on. At least 12" in both directions.
Or remove a three or four foot slab of the concrete floor and pour a 12" thick slab that is
attached to the excisting slab with lots of re-bar.

I agree with you Dave, but all the hoist sites say it is not necessary. They just expect you to use smarts when loading a vehicle.

I have enough concrete and ceiling height. This hoist is stupid heavy, it's an older Rotary.
Could I do it myself, maybe, but failure would be catastrophic.
Lots of Youtube videos on how, there's lots of failed hoists too. Just not worth the risk to me.
I got one quote for $2000, 2 guys, 1 day with parts. Experience is a valuable thing.

It's not rocket science and doable. myself and a couple of guys put mine up about 20 years ago and it was fairly straight forward and i had extra concrete poured for the pads when i built the shop. Dave might be onto something with welding 12 x 1/2" ?? pads to it if the floor wasn't built for it. you would still bolt it down using the existing bolt pattern on the posts but it would greatly take the pressure off the concrete, cheap insurance sort of thing. the floor did come up with my insurance company on their inspection for my shop added to my coverage which actually surprised me, luckily i had the engineers drawings for the footings and the floor. i don't know the outcome if i hadn't, is all.

Your right on how much they weigh bud. lol  i helped take one down many years ago and was surprised by the weight and that was when i was much younger and a lot better shape. lol  the new chinese cable hoist i put up here would be a fraction of the old rotaries weight wise.  how much weight lift is it Mike, just curious is all.  good luck what ever way you go with it bud and keep us informed, good project.

A good four post hoist is available for $3,000. No worries about bolting it down.
Also no worries about it tipping.

Not as handy for a lot of the things Mike will use it for either. Cannot use one to lift a body off a chassis
is first in my mind, but Mike is a mechanic and leaning over the ramps to work on a suspension or wheel
piece is no fun either...

I've used 4 post hoists. A complete PITA.

Only reason I would buy one is to do alignments.

Four post hoist today are only sold to store multiple vehicles. I have one and it is useless to do any type of work on the car.

Anyone that can not use a four post hoist to do anything should sell their tools. I took the body off the '51 Ford while using the four post hoist. Brakes? Just jack up the wheels.

Wow, now that's harsh. Sell your tools, come on. Thought this was a friendly helpful site. Not impressed

I guess I fit into that category jarvis1 because a 4 post or a 2 post would put my ride through the rafters. lol Wish I could help raising it for you. A bit distant for me but if you just need one more guy, let me know. Maybe I can.

Right now I have a 2000 GMC on the four post hoist, doing brake lines.
No problems.

That's right, i found if you are doing something that requires under work most things a very doable but if you are under it and then something over the fender the 4-5 inches the deck is off the floor is a pita. that and any kind of wheel work requires a jack on the deck. i have a 2002 s/s camaro up top on mine now for a least 3 years.  p.s  see for sale form.  lol

Wow, Did I say something to offend you? I don't remember bashing you anytime.

If you're happy with a 4 post, good for you. I don't want one.

I wasn't looking for hoist opinions, just an installer.

I have contacted 2 installers, I'm waiting to hear from the second on available time. Licensed guys who install and certify hoists for a living.

I appreciate the offers of help, but it's one those cases when I'm standing under a 4000 car I don't want to guess if the hoist is secure.

Gravity always wins.

Good for you Mike, that in my mind was the right way to go. You only get one time to do it right.

My best guess, 1500 to a deuce and cheap insurance for his long term plan, my guess.
