Is there a trick to getting a belt over a pulley ?  I tried removing a bolt first and looping the belt over the pulley and then putting the bolt back but that didn't work.  Is it a given that a new belt is required when cha ging from a generator to an alternator ?  Thank you in advance.

Remove one of the alternator bolts and see if the alternator swings down far enough to get the belt them use a pry bar to bet the bolt holes aligned. Are those the proper size bolts holding the alternator? They seem to wobble in the hole.

Boy you have a sharp eye. The bolts are temporary just to see if I can get everything in place.
The belt was brand new last Fall but I think I'll have to buy a longer one. I think the alternator pulley needs about 1" or more of belt.
I did remove a bolt from either side to get the belt on but no luck. Back to NAPA again I guess. Thank you Warren.

In this vbideo, Zac says to never reuse 6 volt battery or starter wires for 12 volt. (at 3:55 minutes into video). Why not ? They look fine to me.

Did you loosen the bolt down there that holds the slingshot on?
Undo as many bolts as possible.
6V battery cables are quite large. Switch to 12V. I forget the gauge sizes.

OK, new cables it is. But my rod is gonna be pissed that my truck is gobbling up all the new parts. Thank you Jarvis. And yes, I adjusted the slingshot bolt and all seems tight (to me) now.

He is 100% right for a long time fix. Short time to mend a problem or get home, sort of thing, go ahead but to do it right, he is right.   just my thinking bud.

thank you shag766. it would be nice to know why the cables must be changed. To a novice, a thick cable is a thick cable. Is a 4 or 6 gauge cable different for a 6 or 12 volt ? Isn't it just thick copper wire inside of each ? I will buy new cables today.

Cable size may have something to do with resistance.

6 volt will have larger cables due to amperage being double of 12 volts.

So, why in the name of science and physics, is it, that a thicker cable shouldn't be used for less amperage?

Because someone said so?
