Is there a trick to getting a belt over a pulley ?  I tried removing a bolt first and looping the belt over the pulley and then putting the bolt back but that didn't work.  Is it a given that a new belt is required when cha ging from a generator to an alternator ?  Thank you in advance.

Remove one of the alternator bolts and see if the alternator swings down far enough to get the belt them use a pry bar to bet the bolt holes aligned. Are those the proper size bolts holding the alternator? They seem to wobble in the hole.

Boy you have a sharp eye. The bolts are temporary just to see if I can get everything in place.
The belt was brand new last Fall but I think I'll have to buy a longer one. I think the alternator pulley needs about 1" or more of belt.
I did remove a bolt from either side to get the belt on but no luck. Back to NAPA again I guess. Thank you Warren.
