Having promoted a Craft Show the past 25 years - last year being the final due to Municipal Bullsh!t - I can tell you with certainty, those two items in red will be big hurtles. Not trying to kibosh your idea, just a heads-up. Also, back in the late '70's one of my uncles, myself and a few friends promoted ice/grass drags for studded bikes and sleds. It was a blast, Insurance even then was steep. Good luck with the project, I think it's a fine idea.

Warren, I am thinking you really should check out the grass drag site's for snowmobiles. The big money in sled racing is on the grass and they already have the costs incurred, so to say. I know years ago i use to race sleds down around Randy's area in the peninsula at a place called Beidimeirs on the grass and that is where the money was. The big thing is the distance of the race but the costs would be similar, insurance and bylaw.

Never ever seen a Municipal zoning bylaw that allows for racing of any kind. Usually Forbidden.
You might petition the Council to allow a one time event as they are called, and you might have a hope if some or all proceeds get donated to a charity.
Insurance - there is currently only one agency doing motorsports - and it takes about a year to get it in place last I checked.
As to costs - no idea these days - its been 8 years since I was involved last.

I'd like to see an arm drop but I confess, I am not sure what that is. I think it is just a bunch of guys drag racing on a back road somewhere out in nowhere. I have the impression it stems from the 50s. No insurance issues other than having somebody parked at both ends to keep an eye out for cops or public traffic. Do I have the right idea ? Probably too dangerous to do these days. Still, nice to dream.

Talk with Lisa from Burls Creek (Barrie fleamarket) , Bonfield event park.
She owns a drag strip with a campground in Bonfield (North Bay) with really no events all summer ... It may be a win win for everyone.
Her June fleamarket needs some help so having the drags and swap meet the same weekend could be something.

Mind you it's paved, lights , timed, pits, shut down area, bleachers. Not a dirt path in a field.

The reason I mentioned the grass drags for sleds is they would already have all the hard costs and amenities built in to their tracks. The big deal would be the distance needed but maybe doable and if there is some extra money to be made they might be able to make it work. The sleds race 500ft and you are looking for 660ft. Truthfully bud i don't even know where there are any sled grass drags anymore but I was just thinking out loud is all.

Thanks guys, I will check out sled drags, never know. Also, I am attempting to get ahold of Lisa. Here is an event that is running this weekend. I was supposed to be there, unfortunately my crew backed out and I didn't want to travel 11 hours each way by myself. www.youtube.com/watch This event would work very well in North Bay or on any old air strip.

I would be up for a race in North Bay if it is cars
