Hey guys,I wasn't sure to ask about this,so I figured we are all in the business of working with are hands,I thought I would ask,I have been diagnosed with Trigger finger,it is in both index fingers, they totally lock up when I close them,so I was wondering if anybody else has this issue and if anyone has had the surgery to remedy this problem, any of the surgeries I have had in the past, have left me a little worried about getting this done,so was just wondering about what you guys think, when I get back home,I have quite a lot of projects to do,car wise and house stuff, and just a little worried if this operation will solve this or should I just live with it,Thanks for reading this ,much appreciate some input

I had it in my left thumb. I had the surgery and all is good.
Fun fact, I had it and my carpel tunnel release surgery at the same time.
It cost me my job, best decision ever.

After a lifetime of using tongs in a forge shop and pruning apple trees and grapes, I feel your pain. I have not had surgery but I do rub my hands up past the wrist - alternating every other night before bed. One night I rub them with black castor oil then put on a pair of cotton gloves until it's soaked in - so the oil doesn't mess up the sheets and pillow cases. The next night I do the same with Bio-Flex. Do NOT rub your eyes or grab your tally-whasker until it's completely soaked in. Just sayin'. After a few nights my hands loosen up and I can forgo the procedure for varying times, depending on what I'm up to with my hands.
That's a new one bud, trigger finger, never heard that one before. Geoff if it was me I would get an opinion and an estimate down there and the reason I say that is up here you could be a long time getting that looked after as it wouldn't be considered serious, it's not good up here for smaller stuff bud. I can relate to your situation but it might be advantageous for you to get an opinion down there for a couple of bucks to see what your up against long term. The reason i say that is you will be lucky to see an orthopedic guy up here this year the way it is here and if you play it right your coverage from up here will pay a part of it, but you will have an idea of what your up against. Ie; walk into an emerg when it is locked up and tell them you are scared that you think it could be a stroke or something, ohip will cover a part of that but you will know what your up against before you get out of there. Once your in the system up here you will get excellent care but the big deal is getting it started.
My sister is the head nurse in an operating room in San Antonio for a couple of orthopedic surgeons, whom I have met over the years, and they like a little cash business so to speak. When I smashed my hip up and was down there visiting I had a meeting with one of them for a heads up on what to expect long term and what he said is pretty much playing out.
Good luck bud and welcome to this getting old sh!t.
Hey Shag,I do have a appointment in Cobourg in April,I was just more concerned about having this done, because I have heard of horror stories about losing the use of your finger if the surgeon messes up,my last back surgery left me with foot drop,no feeling in my foot, and can't curl my toes, lol, the brain surgery was a whole different story, it left me with a thing called compasion for others, never had that before, lol basically it is the same as carpel tunnel surgery, they cut open, release the tunnel, and supposed to cure the locking up,I was just worried if you lose the use of your finger, being able to keep on wrenching,my friend down here had his index finger bit off by a horse,no ****,and he said it doesn't bother him at all, I know a lot of people down here, even my cousin, doesn't have a brain and they still sort of function, lol,so basically depends on the surgeon and how you recover I guess,I was asking because as we get older,it takes a lot longer to heal.

My middle finger locks up when I make a fist and I physically have to release it by pulling it open. Now the other hand is starting to Click .
I caulked it up to Carpal tunnel but I'm not ready to stop using my hands in case a surgery backfires.
I'm in the same boat when it comes to having a potentially pointless or destructive operation.

My buddies sister had one when she was in her 20's ..... She hasn't walked since and her husband moved the "helper" into his bed while her hospital type bed was in the dining room...her parents eventually moved her out.... 1 case is enough for me to realize that a tiny slip can ruin your life!

I fractured my neck and skull 20 years ago. When it happened I was seen by a number of " Specialists". When the conversation turned to surgery they told me I had a 50/50 chance of success or ending up paralyzed from the neck down......obviously I passed on the surgery. I've lived with debilitating pain since - but as an old fella I met at Toronto ReHab said to me one morning when I asked how he was doing - " I'm vertical and ventilating". Ya gotta pick your battles. And no, never had a cortisone shot anywhere. One of my pals has had 3 in the past year in his lower back - it's still killing him AND the shot hurt like hell. Just my 2 cents.
I had the cortisone needle in my shoulder. It felt like it was filling up with grease.
The pain went away for half an hour or so. After two or three of that, I told them no more.
