parts from USA hard to get
Permalink

Since last year I have not been able to work on my car because my health has gone down hill. I handed the car over to a street rod builder to finish, He is having problems getting door seals and even a Holley fuel injection unit. I want to know if anyone is having problems getting their parts . With this person the tariff is no problem, its just getting the parts. Let me know if this is happening to any other builders let me know. I don't want to tear his head off if this is common to the industry on this side of the border.

Hi Paul
I totally get it — one of my cars, a 1946 Lincoln 66H, has been sitting at the mechanic’s shop in Peterborough (Thompson’s on Armour) for almost two years now, just waiting on parts.

It is not getting the parts to Canada, it is parts availability. Many of the traditional parts suppliers are shutting down or can't find foundries or stamping facilities any more. Even if they can, they have to wait until there is demand for a reasonable quantity to justify the run. The HAMB, kijiji, EBAY, Craigslist, Marketplace and other such similar sites will become your friend. Be prepared to pay through the nose as parts for our cars become fewer and far between. Good luck on your hunt.

I'm lucky in that department. When I need something for the '51 Ford Victoria and it is at Dennis Carpenter in North Carolina,
I get my son to drive over to get it. He lives close by. Then he mails it to me. I avoid the Carpenter shipping charge. And sometimes I forget to pay the boy. But he's loaded and can handle it. Maybe I'll leave him the car when I tip over.

I waited 2 years for for Coker to get my tires made. No longer keeping inventory so they wait until they have enough orders. The cost was over 6,000 for 6 tires but what else can you do if you want to drive your car.

Many of the small part manufactures are closing there doors as the volume is no longer there. I wanted a set of gears made and could not get them made in Canada. Had them made in Michigan waiting 6 months for the order to be filled. Had them made before the pandemic so the cost would be out of this world now plus the tariff.
