Here's the view out my front door. I might be getting daft but it seems to me, aside from the colder than normal temps that this just looks like the winters we had when I was a kid. IMG_1861.JPG

Guess I'm the odd ball as I missed the winters we used to get the minus 40 temps and 3 feet of snow on the ground. Now were lucky if we get 18" of snow accumulation and haven't seen actual minus 40 temps in years. Yes the cold hits a lot harder now that I'm well into my 60's but I still like winter.

At least this year we only endured one thaw that turns the snow into treacherous icy conditions. View looking up my driveway here on the north side of Georgian Bay.

Well, here in Prince Edward County, we have had 4 feet of snow in January, the most in Ontario according to Stats Canada except for Goderich and it was -30C last night. Today it is -15 and sunny, almost like summer. If you are wondering where you fall in the scheme of things, sub the name of your area for Picton in this search picton.weatherstats.ca/charts/snow-monthly.html

Same in Edmonton back in 1983.
Today is 8C here. Light rain.

My son lives just outside of Charlotte, NC and they have snow.
Florida has snow.
Here on the Island we are waiting.
When we do get it, we get lots.

Well the cranes and geese arrived back yesterday where I live and none too soon but I spent some of the coldest days duplicating the Hulk Camino in scale just to get a better understanding of what it took to build such a car.  I got in touch with the owner, Chris in Wisconson, to ask how he managed to fit the downsized windshield but apart from that, it was all just math and patience.  It fascinated me that someone could alter a car so much so I asked Chris if he had the design in his head from the start and he said it was generally but a lot of it sort of morphed in to existence as he went.

I followed his build photos and copied it all including the working 4-link rear suspension and the roll cage going through the firewall.  Chris narrowed the car about 10" and shortened it by removing the entire passenger section the length of the doors.  He had to cut the roof to gain access so I did too.

It was for me a winter project for the coldest days and got me through to Spring.  It took Chris 2 months to build the original and took me a bit more to copy it in scale.  I spent the rest of winter researching and trying to learn how to finish my own rides but this 59 El Camino conversion was a relaxing way to do what I used to do so often as a kid.  I hope it is alright to post it here.  Look up Hulk Camino on youtube to see the original.

Thank you Iwannagofast. It was more than just stepping back in time. I wanted to build it exactly as the original so I could better appreciate building a ride from the ground up. I loved how he simplified the frame by duplicating the inside and outside channels and then offset them. It must be wonderful to have a shop big enough to do such work.

Some folks are just way too talented.......fortunately for this hobby - and fortunately for this site there are more than a couple here too.
