Hi Ryan, unfortunately there's not a lot of people left out here that can do that sort of thing. The car community isn't what it used to be either. Forums like this were a very busy place but with faceplant etc people don't frequent forums near as much.
If you look on here there's only one or 2 projects going on, lots of people rid of their cars too, or dying.
By the sounds of it there's at least one week worth of work to be done. There's always one more problem or snag.
I have a shop capable of getting the car in but am not looking for a long term project either. Too many other projects plus I still work for a living. Being 1.5 hours away doesn't make it easy for you either, I'm not traveling to work there, sorry.
Have you tried Old Autos newspaper? Or the Antique car club of Canada?
It's a beautiful car and deserves to bee finished.
If you're interested in bringing your project To Napanee, message me and we can discuss.

This is my current project.

Have you tried Oshawa Classics? My friend with a 51 Meteor used them with success.

For some reason, I am not getting notifications about my threads, even though I checked the box for them.

Thank you for this recommendation!  I have never heard of this place before. They didn't come up in Google searches for me, when I searched for "classic" "car" "restoration" mechanic/shop.  When I searched the name, they popped up right away though.

I was there today talking to Gary, and he said to give him a call next week.  Fingers crossed I can get something done with this car soon, because it's such a liability as it sits.  If they can just get it moving and stopping, I'd be happy. Anything more than that is gravy.

Now, the next hurdle is trying to find a shop that is willing to mount four new white walls on the rims.  Every place I call does this hand wringing two step "uhh we uh.. don't usually work on.. uh.. anything like that.. and there uh... is.. uh a possibility.. uh  that it could..  get damaged..." and they don't want to do it.    They say I need a "custom" tire shop, but they never know of any.

I ended up going to Van Hemmen.  They were fast, professional, and very reasonable.  All four tires are good to go.

Edit: look how angry and disrespectful I'm being!!

I have been talking with Garry from Classics Oshawa. It sounds promising. We might be able to get it in next week!  Fingers crossed.

I have been working on getting it ready. Tying up the loose ends that are a PITA to do with the engine in the car. Anything I can take care of myself that will make their jobs easier.

Let's hope Wuga's suggestion of Oshawa Classics can help you out. We have to keep these cars alive.

I understand your frustration. Most of us including me have been there and more than once. My advice is walk away from it a while and regroup. Your options are sell as is and you will not be happy with what you are offered or find a way to get the engine in and running. At that point sell it or hopefully enjoy it. Best of luck.

Be prepared for another huge loss at this point, sound like you've created a huge project for the next guy and that
is going to be very unfortunate at this stage. Cars have taken a huge dump this past year as well, you may be better
off to find a cheaper storage solution for the time being and maybe you'll get your mojo back.. You won't be likely to
find a $7500-10,000 buyer at this stage.

At this point, I'm as concerned about the next guy as the previous guy was concerned about me.  I did all the heavy lifting. I spent all the money putting things right. When all they did was slap an edelbrock on it, and pumped it full of stop leak, I sourced a new block, and imported every single piece to build a brand new one. I bought and mounted the new tires. I repainted the engine bay and the hood. I had the carb, antenna, gauge cluster, clock and brake booster rebuilt. I bought all of the new parts.  I don't see what the next guy has to complain about. He's getting a lot more than I did for a lot less than I paid.

I am moving. Leaving the country in a couple of months.  I am not going to be here to store it, work on it, or even drive it.  I don't want to spend even more money to drag it down to Texas with me, to have to deal with the same problems in a different location.  I can't do it myself, here or there anyway, and I can't find help for love nor money. I can't even get one of those two bit mobile mechanics on kijiji to spare an hour of their time to wriggle an engine in to place WITH me, not FOR me.

If it's worth that little, there really is no point in investing any more time or money into it.  At those amounts I may as well sell the engine and scrap the rest of the car.

Edit: Look at me being a "big meanie" because my life doesn't revolve around fixing a car.

Sorry I'm too far away to help with hooking up the engine....that engine looks good.

A couple ideas have you contacted any local car clubs to ask for help. Another idea any schools in your area with a auto shop course. Talking to the teacher maybe they could recommend a student that could work with you to do the grunt work under your supervision. Also check for a mechanic that offers mobile services they usually work from a truck or van.

Posting on Facebook Market Place would be a good place to start.

Good luck with the car and the business venture.

Paul

Well, I don't know what to make of this. I gave you legitimate info which you used so you know I am for real. I don't understand the moving situation, motor or no motor, the car could be moved by any towing company and the engine as well. I sent you a DM with my phone number 4 days ago, you know who I am but you didn't bother to call. I wanted a proper assessment of the situation as I had a couple of days help for you to at least get the car mobile.
Are you real or is this a scam?

I know you?

Yes, you gave me a couple of tips that worked out. Thank you. I don't recall seeing you offering to do the work for me. I don't recall making any arrangements or commitments with you, or anyone else on here. I don't get any notifications from here despite having the box ticked.  What exactly is it you feel you are owed?  What are you "out" as a result of this?  What were you promised that you didn't get?  I guarantee it isn't as much as what I have lost, so don't feel so hard done by.

Aside from me, who, and how was anyone here scammed?

How are "they" going to move the motor on its own, without bashing and scratching it to rat ****? If its not on the stand, its on the floor. A few good bumps while its on the stand, and it's on the floor.  I don't have a cradle or a pallet for it, and I'm not buying or building one for it either.  When "they" came to tow the car to the storage place, the 67 IQ steering wheel holder they sent couldn't put the car in neutral because the shift indicator needle is missing. It never occurred to him to count the detents till he got to neutral, but I'm to trust the likes of that with a $5000+ engine, just hanging out on the back of a flat bed?  I wouldn't trust them to boil an egg.

The arrangement I had with that shop was for me to get the engine in, and they would do the rest. They didn't agree to put the engine in for me, just get the car somewhat road worthy. We didn't discuss how long they would have the car, or even how much they'd want to do the original tasks I had in mind, let alone doing more work.  Should I expect an angry letter from them for deciding not to go ahead with this car, after making absolutely no commitment with them either?

I have a house to clear. I have five storage units to organize, consolidate, and move. Three cars to sell, one to transport. I have a 5700km road trip looming. Temporary accommodations here to arrange. Temporary accommodations down there to arrange, commercial properties to view, brokers, lawyers, lawyers and more lawyers to meet with.  I am so very sorry that spending time and money fixing a car I have come to hate with a passion, and haven't wanted for quite a while, fell right off the bottom of my list of priorities.

Its being sold as is, or scrapped.  I'm not taking it with me when I go.

Sorry for trespassing on your valuable time.

I did offer to work on it if you could get it to my shop.
You could even drop off the whole sea can. I have lots of space.

I sent you my phone number signed with my name. I had no other way of getting ahold of you. I had arranged along with several other bodies to come and help you get the car mobile. That is why I needed to talk to you. To find out where the car was, what tools, supplies we needed and what we needed to do. I figured with what we could do and with the help of perhaps CAA, we could get the car to Mike or to Classic. If nothing else and all fails, I was prepared to make you an offer on the engine/tranny. Well, good luck on that now. Your anger and disrespect for members on here have put this thread totally sideways. I am sorry for your situation, but I think you are in it alone now. Poncho, I think this thread should be deleted. It just doesn't fit the mood or feel of the site.

Well fella's we don't all approach this hobby from the same direction or with the same intent(s).

I find typing words can't convey intent, it's too bad he didn't give you a ring Wuga. We've never met but I suspect you're the sort of guy to help out someone in need........but speaking to a live person often makes the difference.

He didn't call, his loss unfortunately.

Poncho, setting the disrespectful tone aside I think the post should stand as a reminder to all of us that this hobby just isn't for everyone.

I think you all see exactly why he was having problems all along and why he was being "screwed' by everyone.. Looks like we may just hear of a Caddy that " got scrapped" because we are all just a big group of meanies! I've personally sent people like this packing from my shop before, and lived through it...

Oh... you signed your name.  We're practically related now, I suppose.  I'm scared to think what would happen if we shook hands. Would I get to pick the ring?  Would I get to keep my last name?

You signed your name, in a message I got no notification of, and which I didn't see.  Do you feel the slightest bit, silly now?

My anger and disrespect?   I was so angry and disrespectful, yet you were supposedly tripping over yourself to help me, and you're going aff yer tits because you didn't get to?   That is the story you're going with?

Calling me a scammer because... I didn't take anything from you?

You didn't know how to get ahold of me? How about in the thread I posted? Like everyone else.  I said numerous times I don't receive any notifications from this site. Why the hell would you try to get my attention anywhere else on this site but where I look?   So, I didn't see your message, yet you still feel justified in how YOU came at ME?

You're the angry and disrespectful one here.  You blew this way out of proportion, and of any of these other guys had the gumption to pull their tongues out of your backside, they'd say the same, but I have been around groups like this to know how they work. Established guy makes a complete ass of himself, but its the "big meanie" new guys fault.  Just like high school, for people who never left it.

On the contrary. This thread, particularly the end of it, sums this place up to a tee. A bunch of duplicitous old hens on an obscure forum, gate keeping a dying hobby while acting like high school girls.

You only want it deleted because it demonstrates how soft, petty, and deranged you are.  I'd be pretty embarrassed too, if I came out swingin', calling someone everything but a white guy because of a misunderstanding I created.

As for you Stapley; you can wrap the bravado. Your shop? Never heard of it. Guys like you turn down money because you aren't up to the task, but play it off like you can afford to be choosey.  If that was the case, you'd be sipping drinks on a beach instead of supposedly turning wrenches in Canada. You're even less believable than that other ninnie.

Anyways, I will let you ladies get back to braiding each other's hair till your periods synch up.

That was interesting. I expected someone of his age to be a little more mature.
Really what was he expecting, a few guys on a little used forum to be his hero?
Seems like he had money to spend, he could have done a bit more research to find a suitable shop, they are out there.

I hope he learns a lesson from this, matures and moves on.
